These are the five things that cause shame. The latter two are said to be one in the scriptures, but the commentators have separated them. Not preventing others is: Avoid punishing others with a stick. That is to say, in any dispute, if others have made a mistake, they should be reconciled in a lawful manner, but if they are always dissatisfied and have an arrogant attitude of harming others, and do not listen to reconciliation, that is, do not accept it, then they have afflictions; even if there is no hatred, they show an impatient attitude, and if they do not accept it simply because they do not want to accept it, then it is a fault of not having afflictions. Even if you don't accept it, there is no fault. From the perspective of need, it is to subdue it with that method. From the perspective of the object, it is to reconcile in an unlawful and inconsistent manner. Among them, the former is unreasonable, and the latter is only in words. Regarding the latter, both the old and new commentaries of the "Twenty Verses" say that, as stated in the scriptures, "at an inappropriate time" refers to not reconciling immediately, but to an appropriate time. The new commentary also explains that there is no fault for heretics and quarrelsome people. Third, not abiding in the antidote is: following the angry mind. That is to say, first, an angry thought arises towards others, and it does not stop, and it continues to cling to it, and it is not regarded as a fault, and it does not seek an antidote. If one accepts the anger that has arisen, then it is a fault of having afflictions. Even if you try hard to abandon it, but if it is not eliminated, there is no fault, as mentioned before. Master Bodhi Xian believes that this is the fault of clinging to the anger that has arisen. Among the four transgressions, the first two are in order due to the precepts and the collection of good dharmas, striving to benefit others, and the act of collecting good dharmas becomes the basis of indulgence, and the loss caused by not accepting afflictions and near afflictions is the explanation in the new commentary, while the latter two are not obvious. There are three things that contradict diligence. The first is weak practice, that is: gathering followers in order to be served. That is to say, being greedy for services such as bathing, laying seats, and not arranging work, being greedy for these services, and gathering followers with the intention of expecting offerings of wealth, etc., then they have afflictions. If they are gathered with a pure mind, then there is no fault in undertaking things such as doing services themselves.

Not applying effort means not eliminating laziness and so on. That is to say, giving rise to comfort in sleep, included by idleness and laziness, and the comfort of lying in bed, and stretching the body, that is, the comfort of stretching, not at the appropriate time, not controlling the time of day and night either. Except for the middle of the night, possessing the upper and lower parts, and not eliminating them, is the fault of affliction. Possessing them without fault, from the point of view of the basis, is being sick and unable, and being tired from walking the road, and generating intention to abandon them, doing as before, these three situations. Attachment to bad deeds is relying on idle talk because of attachment. That is to say, always wasting time with a mind of attachment to the noisy words of kings, ministers, thieves, women, and desires, etc., is the fault of affliction. Doing it because of forgetfulness is the fault of non-affliction. This is just wasting time by listening to others, and wasting time is also from morning to afternoon, and from afternoon to evening, etc., Samudra explains. There is no fault in listening and speaking either. From the listener's point of view, it is listening to others speaking, and also listening for a moment in front of others while abiding in mindfulness. From the point of view of speech, it is just asking others about strange or interesting words, and answering others' questions. For diligence in learning, this is also a fault, Jinasutra and others explain. These three misdeeds are like the activities of benefiting sentient beings, in the accumulation of the Sangha and the perfection of diligence in accumulating merit, and in the noise of guarding the precepts, not accepting idle bad words, the new commentary explains that it is falling away from these. There are three things that contradict meditation, and the fault of effort is not seeking the meaning of meditation. That is to say, wanting to calm the mind, but causing the mind to abide because of hatred and arrogance, and from this beginning not accepting other teachings, if it is affliction and the other two kinds of mind, it is the fault of non-affliction. Not harming is also without fault, from the point of view of the basis, it is being sick and unable, and doubting that wrong teachings have arisen, and I have heard a lot, can I calm the mind? Or the teachings have completed the function of the teachings, these three situations.
