If the basis is a Bodhisattva's own affair, then even for the sake of life, one would not knowingly lie. Therefore, having examined separately, one lies for the sake of sentient beings. In short, no matter what, one only sees the benefit of sentient beings, and not one's own benefit. Because one also possesses a mind free from defilement, and with the sole intention of benefiting others, knowingly changes one's perception and lies, it will not become a fault, and merit will also increase greatly. The circumstance for allowing divisive speech is that the object is a sentient being who is controlled by an unwholesome spiritual friend. The thought is: thinking that if these people rely on bad friends and suffer harm and disadvantage for a long time, that would be bad. Therefore, one speaks "words" that separate them from the unwholesome spiritual friend. Even if such division is made, it will not become a fault, and merit will also increase greatly. The circumstance for allowing harsh speech is that the object is a sentient being who has entered a wrong path and is doing unreasonable things. The thought is: in order to turn them away from unwholesome deeds and place them in wholesome deeds by means of speaking harsh words. Even if one speaks harsh words in this way, there is no fault, and merit will also increase greatly. Samudra considers that entering the ten unwholesome actions, or even if one knows the path of the Great Vehicle, entering the narrow Lesser Vehicle, or even if one knows the Lesser Vehicle, entering the path of the non-Buddhists, this is entering the wrong path. Even if one knows what should be done, but does not respect the precepts and is negligent, this is explained as doing unreasonable things. The circumstance for allowing frivolous speech is that the object is a sentient being who is fond of the sounds of singing, dancing, and music, and who is fond of the talk of kings, thieves, food, drink, prostitutes, roads, streets, and so on. The basis and thought are: being skilled in singing, dancing, and so on, with a compassionate heart, one pleases and delights them with various singing, dancing, and so on, thereby controlling them, making them listen to one's words, turning them away from unwholesome deeds, and placing them in wholesome deeds. Even if one speaks such frivolous speech, there is no fault, and merit will also increase greatly. In this treatise and in the "Ornament for Clear Realization," the occasion for allowing the three of mind, apart from the seven of body and speech, is not explained. But Dharma-possessing Rabjor says: For those who have no concern whatsoever for their own benefit, but only wish to do the benefit of others, and who at all times have compassion, it is permissible for them to engage in the three faults of mind, or all except wrong view, because that is the Bodhisattva's...

It should be consulted in the treatises that establish the vows. It seems that this is explained to indicate the need for a source in the scriptures. If one transgresses the naturally occurring precepts of individual liberation, it will not constitute a fault, and merit will increase. What need is there to mention transgressing the prescribed faults? Master Bodhibhadra explains. If a great need related to benefiting others is seen, then even if one transgresses the prescribed, individual, and common precepts, there is no fault, as can be inferred from the previous statements. Secondly, regarding the violation of ethics where oneself is the main focus, there are three aspects. First, the deterioration of livelihood: accepting wrong livelihood. That is, accepting the five wrong livelihoods, such as hypocrisy. Accepting any of these that arise, and not feeling ashamed or restrained by them, nor eliminating them with remedies, is a fault of affliction, there is no non-afflictive fault. Even if one generates the intention to eliminate it, there is no fault for those with a greater share of affliction, as explained in following the mind of desire. The characteristics of the five wrong livelihoods are as stated in the Precious Garland: 'For the sake of gain and respect, pretending to be disciplined; for the sake of gain and respect, speaking softly first; praising the possessions of others for the sake of obtaining them; measuring by gain for the sake of gain; openly reviling others; desiring gains with gains; praising what was previously obtained.' As it is said. The commentaries explain that if one does not notice the moment a mind of wrong livelihood arises, it is a minor offense, but this does not seem to agree with the text. Deterioration of ritual: fluttering and excessive frolicking, etc. That is, the mind that belongs to the category of desire, if it is not completely pacified, is frolicking, and because it is completely seized by it, it is not pacified, and one enjoys it, frolicking like a horse, playing and making noisy sounds and being distracted, and also wanting to make others frolic, this is a fault of affliction. If one does these things out of forgetfulness, it is not a fault of affliction. If one does things from frolicking like a horse onwards, there is no fault, from the perspective of the basis: generating the intention to eliminate it, as before. From the perspective of necessity, if one wants to eliminate the suffering that others have generated from all sides by that method, or wants to eliminate the sorrow of others, or others like laughter and play.
