As it is, furthermore, how are the latter two abandonments counted separately? Answer: Regarding this, the two statements about the Bodhisattva vow and the statement that the number is greater than that in order to determine its form are not contradictory, because they are like the root and the commentary. The first abandonment is the meaning of "generating the mind," which is to generate the mind in the Hinayana. That is, when taking vows before, the mind taken with the intention to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of sentient beings must be different from this, that is, generating a mind that is not in accordance with it, which is abandoning the aspiration mind. The second abandonment is to speak the words of offering the training in the presence of someone who can understand the meaning, and the other person understands. This is different from offering the vows of individual liberation, because for the vows of individual liberation, if one cannot protect them and offers them, only the merit that follows the vows is reduced, but the offering itself does not generate great sin. But for the Bodhisattva vow, if one offers it, it is cutting off the taking of vows after promising to accomplish the benefit and happiness of limitless sentient beings, so one will fall into the lower realms and wander for a long time. If one destroys the happiness of even one sentient being, one must fall into the lower realms, let alone destroying the happiness of all sentient beings, because it is established by many reasons. As it is said in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: If one has made such a vow, but does not carry out this vow, deceiving all sentient beings, what kind of place will one be born in the future? Even if one does not give a small thing, but thinks of giving it in one's mind and speaks empty words, it is said that one will become a hungry ghost, let alone intending to bestow supreme bliss on all beings, but instead deceiving them all, how can one be born in a good realm? Also, whoever obstructs the merits of others for even a moment, because of the intention to harm others, will constantly wander in the lower realms. If one harms the happiness of one sentient being, one's own self will suffer all kinds of losses, let alone taking away and harming the happiness of all sentient beings throughout the endless sky, how can one have happiness in the future? Therefore, these reasons are that abandoning the aspiration mind and abandoning the deity who carries the burden of the Bodhi conduct even if one has not abandoned the aspiration mind are the same, so one must not be impoverished in any way. Therefore, one should examine well before taking it.

Or, in other places, the faults are very great. In the Compendium of Trainings, it has been proven by three Sutras, which has been said before. The third reason for abandoning is that all four faults are gathered, or repentance is performed for any one of the faults; the fourth reason for abandoning is that both are practiced with great defilement. Although it is said that way, if the great defilement is not complete, it will become a fault belonging to the defeat category, but it will not truly become a defeat. Therefore, it is not a downfall that abandons the precepts. If the fourth reason for abandoning occurs, the third one will also occur. Therefore, each fault committed with great defilement, and the situation where less than two faults are gathered, are the reasons for the latter two abandonments. The second reason for abandoning mentioned in this treatise is divided into two. The saying "all four" only indicates the aspect of gathering less than two faults. The aspiration Bodhicitta of a Bodhisattva who has vows has not been abandoned, nor has the training been returned. If one does not practice with the great defilement of the place of defeat, even if one dies, one will not abandon the Bodhisattva's precepts when one is born in the lower, upper, and middle places. When talking about death, it is also to restore memory by relying on a virtuous friend, it is only accepting, not re-taking the vows. Among them, the upper is the gods, the middle is humans, and the lower is the evil realms. There, the commentators explain that they are born by the power of aspiration or for the benefit of sentient beings or by the power of karma. In other lives, one does not engage in actions that are incompatible with the Bodhisattva. Jinasutra and Samudra explain it this way, which is the power of the precepts remaining. Second, regarding the classification of misdeeds, there are two: Generally speaking, those who abide in the Bodhisattva's precepts are divided into those with and without faults, and those with faults are further divided into those with and without defilement, and the faults are also divided into small, medium, and large, which should also be understood. Among them, whether it will become a downfall, and whether the downfall is defiled, are declared in the context of misdeeds, while small, medium, and large will be explained in the following chapters. Separately explaining misdeeds, there are two: the faults of the opposing aspects of accumulating virtuous Dharma, the six perfections, and the faults of the opposing aspects of benefiting sentient beings. The first has six: the opposing aspects of generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom.
