However, the previous text is not clear, and the subsequent text also seems inconsistent with it. In the newly compiled "Commentary on the Twenty Verses of Discipline," it says that in addition to the previous four limbs, adding "not turning back even when requested by others," if all five are complete, it is a great entanglement, if it turns back when requested, it is a medium entanglement, and if it quickly turns back by its own power without relying on requests, it is said to be a small entanglement. But it does not seem reasonable, because if the commentators each add limbs, the boundaries of the limbs will be impossible to determine. So what is it? Here, the teacher distinguishes the three entanglements, and it is also necessary to determine the transgressions of the three entanglements, because if they are not determined, the difference between confessing for the three and the one will not be understood, and it has not been said on other occasions, so it can be understood by determining the great entanglement, which is clear. Regarding this, being satisfied and happy with what has been done, and wanting to continue doing it in the future, and not regarding it as a fault, these two indicate that the latter has greater afflictions, because even if the former exists, if it is regarded as a fault, there will be a place where hesitation arises, and if it is not regarded as a fault, there is no place where hesitation arises. Regarding this, regarding it as a fault does not necessarily have shame and embarrassment, but if it is not regarded as a fault, these two will not arise, so it is pervasive. Therefore, when the limbs of the great entanglement are not complete, if there is regarding it as a fault, then even if all the others are complete, it should be known as a small entanglement, and if it is not regarded as a fault, it should be known as a medium entanglement. If it is not regarded as a fault, there is no shame or embarrassment, and if shame and embarrassment arise, then regarding it as a fault will definitely arise, so these two are not calculated separately. The fourth is the difference of being recoverable: a Bodhisattva's defeat law, even if practiced completely only once, will not abandon the Bodhisattva vows taken. Its meaning is that, like practicing the defeat law, just as a monk abandons the vows of liberation, because it has been said before that, like abandoning the vows of liberation, the meaning of not abandoning is that, like the vows of liberation being abandoned after a defeat occurs, and taking them again will not arise as before, this is different. It is not that one defeat law is not enough, but that abandoning it requires practicing it many times. Therefore, in the previous text, it immediately says that even if the Bodhisattva has abandoned the vows taken, in this life

There is a chance to take it back, unlike a bhikshu who commits a root offense, who will become completely without a chance. Thus it is said. If a root offense is committed without concealment, then the Pratimoksha vow is also first returned and then taken, isn't it said to be complete? Why is it said that it cannot be taken back? On this, some schools think that if there is no concealment, there will be no root offense, so they think that all root offenses are with concealment, so the statement that it cannot be taken back can be kept as it is. That is also referring to the basis of the Hinayana, which has been said before. If it is thought that there is no concealment of committing a root offense, it is also different from the fact that the Bodhisattva's precepts can be taken, because the Bodhisattva can generate pure precepts by taking them again. The basis of the Hinayana is that even if the precepts are taken again, pure Bhikshu precepts will not be generated, because it is said that both incomplete and complete depend on the place of reliance. So, what is the reason why the Pratimoksha vow cannot be restored, and the Bodhisattva's precepts can be restored if a root offense is committed? On this, Haiyun said: The Pratimoksha vow of the Shravakas is the basis of all good dharmas, so it is called the root vow, if it is broken, they will universally practice strong shameless and unashamed behavior. Because they have damaged the knowledge of shame and shame, they will not have the opportunity to truly take the vow in this life. The Bodhisattva is not like that, even if he has completely abandoned the Bodhisattva vow in this life, he still has the opportunity to take it back in this life, because he has not damaged the knowledge of shame and shame. In this way, committing a root offense of the Pratimoksha vow will damage the knowledge of shame and shame, while the root offense of the Bodhisattva vow will not damage it, this is taken as a reason. The reason is also explained as the Pratimoksha vow is the basis of all good dharmas, and Jinasutra and Samudra also said the same. Regarding this aspect, if you ask whether the Bodhisattva vow will arise if the Pratimoksha vow commits a root offense, I think it is difficult to answer. My own view is that, as mentioned in the Ananda's Questions Sutra quoted earlier, the reason why the precepts of the Shravaka vehicle are completely cut off when a person of the Shravaka vehicle commits a root offense is that the person of the Shravaka vehicle must abandon all afflictions.
