To introduce the right path and dispel evil, one relies on virtuous friends and noble individuals, as well as virtuous spiritual mentors who perform initiations and the like. One acts as one's own spiritual mentor, examining one's own faults, understanding the faults and consequences of those faults in this life and the next, and eliminating them by relying on remedies. For mistakes or faults that arise, if there is an opportunity to meet the Buddhas and their retinues, one confesses to them. If not, in front of their images, one informs the Buddhas and their retinues of the ten directions, confessing and repenting, and doing the same to Dharma friends who act in accordance with the Dharma. Summary of meaning: The discipline that accomplishes, protects, and increases virtuous Dharmas in accordance with this is called the Bodhisattva's discipline of gathering virtuous Dharmas. Among these, accomplishment is the new generation, such as generating the three wisdoms. Protection is to prevent the virtuous Dharmas that have arisen from being depleted. For example, practicing patience; if anger is not restrained, it will destroy the accumulated roots of virtue. Increase is to make the protected virtuous Dharmas grow again, become vast, and increase, such as dedication and making aspirations. Working for the benefit of sentient beings: What is the Bodhisattva's discipline of benefiting sentient beings? In short, it should be understood as eleven aspects: For those who need help, those who are ignorant of methods, those who are given benefits, those who are threatened by fear, those who are tormented by sorrow, those who lack resources, those who want to abide, those who want to be like-minded, those who have entered correctly, those who have entered wrongly, and those who should be tamed by miraculous powers, one should accomplish their benefit as appropriate. There are three causes of perfection, among which, the cause of the perfection of the discipline of vows is: How can a Bodhisattva who abides in the discipline of vows become one who is good at guarding the discipline? In this regard, not being attached to desires beyond the ten is: Even if a Bodhisattva obtains the supreme desire of humans—the kingship of a universal monarch—they will abandon it and go forth, and even after going forth, they will not be attached to it, just as they would treat grass or impure things. Because it is desired, it is desire, that is, things.

Past desires, enjoyments, and the desires arising from them, which are the desires of afflictions, are craving. Here, it refers to the first case. Just as one does not look back at the garbage swept away with a broom, one should see that there is no need to be attached and not look back at what was previously abandoned. Also, just as one does not look back at the rotten things abandoned with the contemplation of impurity, seeing that those desires are related to the rotten things of afflictions, one does not look back again. Thus, if one initially renounces household pleasures and becomes a renunciate, but then looks back at those things, the vows will not be completely purified, so one must firmly establish non-attachment, and like the two examples mentioned earlier, one must establish such a concept. There is no joy in future desires, that is, even envying the enjoyment of desires of the Other-Controlled Emanation Heaven, which belongs to the realm of demons in the future, and not practicing celibacy for that purpose, what need is there to mention for the sake of other desires? Not being happy with that is like looking at it as not wanting to enter a dense forest full of tigers, leopards, and other beasts. Here, when talking about not looking at the past, only human desires are mentioned, not gods, because the main object of the vows is the renunciate, and there is no renunciation for gods. When talking about not being happy with the future, only the desires of gods are mentioned, not humans, because this is to show that there is no future envy for the enjoyment of desires, and there is nothing more powerful than demons for the enjoyment of desires. In short, for the vows of a renunciate to be pure or well-guarded, one also needs not to abide in celibacy for the sake of future desires, and it is not enough just not to look at the desires that were previously abandoned. There is no particular attachment to present things, that is, one does not even taste the desire for gain and respect from vast sentient beings such as kings and householders, let alone the gain and respect from inferior sentient beings? This is like eating food and then vomiting it out, not tasting the flavor again, one should see it as the same with correct wisdom. For that, mainly if one cultivates celibacy envying future desires, it will only become a good wish and will not become individual liberation vows, although similar, but the enjoyment of desires previously obtained
