And in the center, arise conceptual thoughts. This is stated in the recognition of the eleventh consciousness, and also in the commentary on the Vinayasutra: "All conceptual thoughts are liberated from all, which is the beginning, middle, and end. That is, all phenomena are empty of inherent existence, and are separated from conceptual thoughts such as beginning." And it says, "Conceptualizing that very emptiness." So it is said in the context of the eleventh consciousness. The Vajra Heart Ornament also says, "Conceptualizing the utterly transpired emptiness." The utterly transpired emptiness means conceptualizing phenomena that are only empty of inherent nature. What kind of action causes one to fall? It is falling if one clings to and conceptualizes phenomena with characteristics such as names. This is also the intention of Manne, all the wealth of the teachings, and the commentary on the Vinayasutra. If it is necessary not to generate the self-grasping of phenomena due to the power of beginningless habitual tendencies towards phenomena, then it is impossible to accomplish. If, due to the power of philosophical tenets, one clings to things as true, then one has refuted the selflessness of phenomena, and there is no difference from the ninth downfall. Since the ninth downfall is the downfall of slandering the Buddha's words that teach emptiness, it becomes the sixth downfall. This refers to having found the view of the selflessness of phenomena, and one must constantly cultivate that view. If one does not cultivate it, one will incur a downfall. Jñānaśrī says in Eliminating the Two Extremes: "Also, what the mantra practitioners should keep in mind is that at all times and in all circumstances, they should abide without separating from the view of seeing all phenomena as selfless and like illusions. As it is said: What is the use of speaking much here? In the Vajrayana, whatever a yogi focuses on, he sees that as an illusion." Thus, for all defiled and purified phenomena, one must abide without separating from the view of seeing them as like illusions, effortlessly abandoning afflictions and abandoning pride and other things towards virtuous deeds. By that alone, one obtains all the perfections that transcend the world, so by keeping it in mind, one obtains all qualities. Therefore, it is said that when the view flourishes, one must constantly not separate from it. Although this is the case, in order to show the difference from the Madhyamikas, it is then said: "The Madhyamikas also accept such a view, but there is no pride in whether I am abiding or standing up."

Just as eating delicious food mixed with poison, the Victorious Ones also say that contemplating pure white dharma is similar. Like that, at all times and places, all defiled and purified dharmas should be viewed as illusory. If it is not so, it is because on that path, the vows are the main focus. If it is not viewed in that way, it will not be established as a violation of the vows. Precisely because of that, if one is very negligent, faults will occur and separate from it on the Hinayana path. But on this path, if one violates the vows of body, speech, and mind, and separates from that awareness, it is established as a violation of the mind vow. Therefore, driven by the fear of it, one will never separate from that samadhi, and even if one practices separation, one will guard and accumulate with mindfulness, and also combine with it, so one will never separate. Therefore, just as the Thus-Gone One is always separated from grasping the mind as real, the awareness of mantra is also always liberated from grasping reality, and like an illusion, it is inseparable from the same nature, so this is called the Vajrayana, and it is faster than other paths. Therefore, this Mahayana is intended for those with sharp faculties. So it is said. If, for this, it is necessary to have the wisdom of emptiness reasoning arise without interruption, that is too extreme, it is not so, but for the time being, the basis of a view is needed. Without that, in general, although there is only the fault of violating the vows, it will not become a root downfall. Therefore, the standard for becoming a root downfall, because it is not quoted from elsewhere, in the commentary on root downfalls said to be written by Jowo, it says: The dharma that is separated from names and so on is the union with clear light. There, conceptual thought is incompatible with the nature of those two, and grasping it as something else, day and night pass. Saying this, I think it is good. Therefore, if one who holds the mantra vows practices, and has the wisdom to understand emptiness, then even if one does not seek the view of selflessness of phenomena, a root downfall will not occur, but it is clear that a fault will occur, and after obtaining the view, one must act as before. If it is not so, whether one understands the view or not, if one who holds the mantra vows does not remain inseparable from the view that cuts off grasping at characteristics, it will become a root downfall, if one takes such a vow, that is too extreme. Then, is the view of Madhyamaka alone sufficient?
