It is a network! In the "Extensive Commentary," it says: If one confesses after separating from the teacher's livelihood, before the time limit has passed, it is a root downfall; if it exceeds the time limit, it is a defeat; and if one has not separated from the livelihood, it is a gross offense. Therefore, even killing the teacher will not become a defeat, and considering defeat and root downfall as separate is extremely confused. In the root downfall commentary, although many ways of becoming fallen are explained, there are also many unreasonable points, but because of the fear of many words, no refutation has been made. The reason for becoming fallen is that, by disparaging in this way, what is the reason for becoming fallen? Because the accomplishment of the two siddhis in the student's continuum depends entirely on pleasing the Vajra Master, this is what Vajradhara, the holder of the vajra, said. Such a downfall is said to be the first root downfall in all the tantras. Secondly, towards the teacher as an object, doing contempt, insults, etc., that do not reach the level of a root downfall, although not a root downfall because it does not have complete limbs, it must be placed in the category of defeat. For example, in the case of the Bodhisattva vows, small and medium sins are placed in the category of defeat, and in the case of individual liberation vows, gross offenses and misdeeds in the case of defeat and remaining offenses are placed in those categories. For these, in some explanations of root downfalls, they are explained as misdeeds. Even so, the category should be as before, determined as two categories of defeat and gross offense, because it is not the latter. These should also be understood for the following ones. Even if one commits the five inexpiable sins and abandons the Dharma, if one enters the door of the Vajrayana and practices, there is a possibility of attaining supreme siddhi, but as mentioned before, if one slanders the teacher from the heart, even if one practices, one will not attain it. Therefore, the Guhyasamaja says that this is a greater fault than the five inexpiable sins, etc. Therefore, among all the root downfalls, one should strive not to be tainted by this. If this is properly remedied by means of restoration, although it can prevent falling into the lower realms, it will take a very long time to attain siddhi. To slander the teachers who give the two vows of the characteristic vehicle and who explain the pure path of emptiness and compassion, etc., although it is not established as a root downfall, the fault is extremely serious. Downfalls are large and small, and faults are heavy and light, these are different, it depends on...

The magnitude of the transgression depends on merely following the precepts, while the severity depends on the field, the intensity of thought, and so on, as stated by qualified individuals. Therefore, one should be extremely cautious about these as well. The fault of similarity or resemblance is stated in the Ornament of Essence: "Regarding the faults to be abandoned by the Vajra Master and others, one should know the light, heavy, pure, and similar." Although Black Action also explained it, it is no different from an incomplete downfall. The explanation of the second root downfall is: "Transgressing the Sugata's command is said to be the second downfall." In this, regarding the object, as stated in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Abandoning the cause, three qualities, Sugata." As it is said, because it does not become a basis for the suffering of existence, it is well or beautifully gone, because the seed of self-grasping is exhausted, it is gone without returning, and because all that should be abandoned is exhausted, it is gone without exception, therefore it is gone in bliss, that is, become a Buddha. His command is explained by Black Action in terms of the three vehicles. So, what action causes a downfall? It is transgressing that command. The way of transgressing is explained by Black Action as not contradicting the precepts of the three vows, but practicing them with increasing diligence, which is said to be not transgressing the command, therefore it is intended to transgress those. That is, if one merely does something that contradicts the Buddha's precepts, all downfalls would become the second root downfall, so Black Action's view is not that. Shantipa explained despising the command as transgressing the command. Therefore, whatever is a precept of any of the three vows spoken by the Buddha, knowingly violating it, having the motivation of wanting to despise it, for someone who possesses these three qualities, one can combine the intentions of both explanations. In other explanations, only different ways of command and transgression appear, and especially the Extensive Commentary states that this downfall has no defeat, and many similar clear scriptural quotations from the tantras are cited for transgressing the command, but because they do not seem reliable, they are not written. Some Tibetan lamas explain the eight defeats of the Bodhisattva vow and the four (root sins) of individual liberation as the root downfall of transgressing the command, which is not mentioned in any Indian text, and is also not reasonable, because whatever the rule of the three vows, the root downfall of that vow is relative to that vow.
