Also, in a most special way, having received teachings in accordance with the empowerment tantras from a qualified lama, cherishing and guarding the samayas and vows undertaken at that time like the pupils of one's eyes, especially if one has not strictly guarded the root downfalls as if staking one's life, then abandoning the samayas one has promised, although one claims to study the path of mantra, thinking that this opens the door to unbearable evil destinies, Alas! These who claim to study the general and particular Mahayana, if they act in such a way, wouldn't that be a great mistake? Thus, from the depths of their hearts, an unbearable great compassion arose, thereby encouraging and also teaching the disciples that very conduct. There, too, they spoke in great detail about the "Chapter on Moral Discipline of the Bodhisattva Stage," the "Fifty Verses on the Guru," and the "Fourteen Root Downfalls." The Dharma connection for that was: Lama Jetsun Redawa Chenpo came from Ngari (now the Ngari region). He spent the summer retreat in Taktsang, and then went to Ü (now the Lhasa area), arriving at Gawa Dong. He was given a grand welcome, hospitality, and service. The master and disciples both taught a lot of Dharma. After that, both father and son were fond of seclusion, and also hearing the praises of the secluded place of Ra Treng Monastery in the summer, their minds were also moved. Also, because that place was prophesied by the venerable Atisha, was the seat of the father and son of Shakyamuni Buddha, and was the source of all the pure Dharma streams of the Kadampa, they also wanted to go and see it. So the father and son took the lead, leading a large assembly of monks holding the Tripitaka, and prostrated to Ra Treng Monastery. They spent the winter retreat in Ra Treng. Lama Jetsun Chenpo taught the "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning" and the "Five Stages of Guhyasamaja," etc. This Rinpoche, having well organized all the essential points of the Mahayana "Ornament of the Sutras," "Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes," "Compendium of Topics," "Hearer Grounds," etc., taught the explanation of shamatha (calm abiding) in detail, and had the disciples meditate. As a result, some disciples developed special experiences of calm abiding in accordance with the scriptures in their continuums. The father and son had very deep conversations and inquiries about the many essential points of the path of mantra characteristics. After that, Dharma Lord Lotsawa and

Due to the continuous dispatch of messengers and letters from both Drikung Dharma Lords inviting a meeting, the esteemed Rinpoche went to Drikung (present-day Drikung Township, Mozhugongka County, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region) in early spring. There, he expounded much Dharma. From Kyennga Rinpoche Chökyi Gyalpo, he received the Six Yogas of Naropa and Mahamudra Sahajasiddhi, among other teachings. Afterwards, the father and son bid farewell to each other and departed. Rinpoche Lotsāwa Kyabchok Palzangpo, along with the three Dharma Lords, met at the Achinpo Jangchub Yeshe Monastery in Namtse Deng. Patron Yonten Gyatso served them with extremely broad faith and generous offerings. More than six hundred monks, led by numerous holders of the Vinaya like the ocean, vowed to observe the summer retreat. The three Dharma Lords also thought that the precious teachings should be thoroughly purified. They kept in mind that as long as the Vinaya is completely preserved in the king's treasury, the Buddha's teachings exist, and if the Vinaya does not exist, the teachings do not exist. Therefore, with minds focused solely on the Dharma, they gave extensive explanations of the root text of the Vinaya. At that time, from the minor precepts mentioned in the Seventeen Matters, up to the precepts that people can practice now, and from the precepts mentioned in the Pratimoksha Sutra, for all transgressions of vows, they established a pure tradition of performing confession ceremonies according to their respective names and categories, as explained. At that time, most of those who heard the Vinaya also examined their own minds and bodies, and for all gross and subtle transgressions, they practiced as instructed, according to the number of objects of confession and the prior abandonment of wealth, and confessed. From then on, most of the attendants examined their own minds and bodies every day, confessed, and never committed transgressions again. They also made great efforts in the blessings of offerings, cutting lawful places, guarding leftover food overnight, and other practices. Needless to say, they were even more diligent in things that were not difficult to accomplish. Therefore, they fully restored the foundation of individual liberation vows, the root of the Buddha's teachings, thereby benefiting the teachings.
