Taking to heart the basis of harming others under the guise of "discipline being the form of non-virtue" is essentially clinging to mere appearances. This greatly displeases householders, causing faith in the Dharma to decline, and offerings are seen as taxes. Although there may be a few practitioners and Bodhisattva-like individuals, mixing thorns and silk together makes both the cause and effect of increasing merit inauspicious, leading to a deep sense of sorrow at being in a time without protectors or allies. However, even so, a mind of peacefulness that is saddened by the faults of the land is a root downfall for Bodhisattvas. Therefore, the prince Shantideva said: "The source of all beings' difficulties, the suffering of sentient beings is fully accepted, the merit of the precious mind of enlightenment, how can it be measured? Even just thinking of benefiting others is superior to offering to all the Buddhas, what need is there to mention striving for the welfare of all sentient beings?" Like that, with great compassion focused on sentient beings, in order to pacify various temporal calamities, the continuous compassion of the Three Jewels is invoked. Drupa Lama Choedrak was sent to Lhasa's Jokhang Temple to offer a thousand offerings and golden water with silk scarves, accomplished with more than hundreds of silver coins. It benefits beings and also pleases the hearts of the Victorious Ones. Since it does not harm anyone, it is the same for that reason. Since it is said that "my happiness and suffering are the same as sentient beings", may the truth of the noble abandonment and realization protect this world. May the teachings of the Victorious Ones not be crushed by the last of the five hundred periods, and may the seventh of the sevenfold happiness of beings increase. May we be victorious over the evil aeon of disease, weapons, and famine, and the battle of evil aspirations and demons. Having made such aspirations, he urged the recitation of a hundred million manis in front of the Jowo statue. In order to make the substances of the living and the dead meaningful, about ten sets of various fine silks and patterned fabrics were sewn as offerings. In Samye, for the sake of the thousand offerings and the auspicious connection for the happiness of the Dharma and beings, a donation was made for the hall, and on the left and right were painted the Buddhas of the ten directions and three times, and the Pure Land of Sukhavati, as well as fourteen standard-sized thangkas, and stacked mandalas decorated with rainbow-like silks and mandalas of five kinds of inner treasures.
