In order to completely liberate the impure from the great ocean of samsara, the lineage of incarnations, having taken the form of a great Bodhisattva, is completely displayed. The deeds of teaching the Dharma and benefiting sentient beings in limitless realms are inconceivable, let alone expressible in words. Even the deeds of this very lifetime alone, to fully narrate them, are beyond the scope of ordinary minds. However, some individuals with supreme wisdom requested that there be a biography of liberation, both common and uncommon, of the esteemed one, that could be encountered in written form. Therefore, in accordance with the minds of the disciples to be tamed at different times and places, the common deeds are recorded as if flowing like water, while the supremely secret, uncommon intentions and conduct will be understood by those with the eye of wisdom. As a supplement, it simultaneously reveals many profound and vast aspects of the Dharma, as well as the essential points of oral instructions, and has opened many gateways to the activities of the Buddhas in this snowy land of Tibet. Although the tenets of each school may appear to be different, in terms of the essence of the Dharma, there is no good or bad, right or wrong. However, due to the different mental capacities of each individual, the way of measuring the Dharma's essence differs, and the occurrence of good or bad, right or wrong, in the practice is the nature of ordinary beings. Therefore, directly cutting through these misunderstandings, and introducing the ultimate reality to the best disciples, and according to the three levels of inferior, middling, and superior capacities, combining them with their respective dispositions, giving or prohibiting the vows of the three vehicles of Pratimoksha, Bodhisattva, and Mantra, and the code of conduct of the vows, measuring the intentions of the Sutras, Tantras, and Shastras, and determining the views of the schools through debate, in short, this great biography of liberation, which appears in the form of vast Dharma teachings, has the nature of three stages: beginning, middle, and end. The contents recorded above are gradually noted down, and therefore also contain the final wishes and prophecies. Even so, since the explanation of the meaning is somewhat detailed, in the course of the narration, the kindness of the protectors, which is without end, is also mentioned incidentally.

In order to fulfill your (Tsongkhapa's) heart's intentions, and again, with this world as a representative, to benefit sentient beings in countless pure and impure realms through inconceivable miraculous displays, without being obstructed by demons and hindrances, in order to enable all high and low, noble and humble, to eliminate the two obscurations and swiftly perfect the two accumulations, in order to record how the dreams of fulfilling intentions were accomplished, I, not for the sake of fame, desire, wealth, or other base motives, but with a pure heart and senses, have recorded what I have seen and heard, as a continuation of the biography of Je Lama (Tsongkhapa). Furthermore, Je Rinpoche himself, especially considering us, the disciples who cling to permanence, showed signs of declining eyesight and other indications of ascending to a higher realm. During the time of accomplishing great deeds, he also mentioned sporadically, "It will be difficult to accomplish as much as this in the future," hinting that he would soon be transferring to another realm. The empowerments and teachings that he had previously given extensively, he later entrusted to others. In particular, he offered the teachings of the Guhyasamaja, Lamrim, and other teachings, as well as his own mind treasures and collected works, to the Drigung Rinpoche father and son in a manner of complete entrustment, as if indicating that he would not meet them again. Although the prophecy of the immaculate Padmasambhava indicated that his life would be longer, due to the perception of sentient beings with diminished merit, it was like the story of the Buddha asking Ananda how long he would live, and Ananda's ears being blocked by a demon. Some of the interdependent circumstances of the prophecy concerning his lifespan were not fulfilled. Moreover, in some hidden prophecies, the words for month, day, and time were not meant to be taken literally, making it difficult to determine with certainty. This was heard from Je Rinpoche's own words, and in reality, it seems that he had made up his mind not to interpret the meaning of the prophecies according to the perceptions of ordinary beings, but to demonstrate it himself. In the past, at Samye Chimphu, the great Orgyen Padmasambhava prophesied, "Ro dus dus me," which, if "Ro dus" is taken as the year and "dus me" as the month, would be sixty-nine, which corresponds to the actual situation. However, because the activities of this life were not yet completed, it seemed to indicate a postponement.
