The fear of being bound and the suffering are extremely heavy. These beings have also been countless times our own parents, who have nurtured us with love. Now, we let ourselves fall into delusion. If we give up the thought that the bird is real, then immediately it will be like the colored thread of the body breaking, or like wet leather being burned in the fire, gathering together and unable to avoid making squeaking noises. Samsara is like a whirlpool, who can be sure that in the next life we will not take a body like that of a beast? "Beasts devour each other," so whether they are living in groups or scattered, most animals have suffering. Even compared to the suffering of hell beings, it is only slightly less. Now there is no other way to deal with this. If we ignore it, we will break the vows of bodhicitta. Thinking that this is giving fearless refuge and also the teaching of the Bodhisattva vows, we endure the darkness and the cold touch, and the fatigue of many things. By stirring them up with a slingshot, there may be some improvement for a few days. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "Even if one only thinks of relieving the headache of sentient beings, it has the power to benefit and eliminate suffering. If one possesses immeasurable merit, what need is there to mention the ability to think of the immeasurable suffering of each sentient being, and to accomplish the immeasurable qualities of each one?" Now, if we think carefully, not to mention the lower realms, even in the heavens there is not even a needle-tip of happiness. In the unexamined appearances, those leaders who are proud of their wealth and power seem happy, but they must face enemies they dislike, they cannot fulfill the wishes of those greater than themselves, they are suspicious of competing with those of equal status, they are slandered by those of lower status, and there is nothing but suffering. These beings in the intermediate state are full of quarrels, hatred, eighteen kinds of discontent, suppressing suffering in their hearts, unable to fulfill their desires, unhappy hearts, unstable faith, dull minds, and so on, and there is hardly any time for happiness. Poor people are extremely lacking in food and clothing, they have no food to eat during the day, no clothes to wear at night, and on top of that, the burden of heavy taxes is unbearable. If officials are negligent in taxes and so on, they will suffer tortures like those of hell and punishments of the law, experiencing them firsthand, so where is there any happiness to speak of?

I wasn't there either. Thinking about what to do, I was reciting mani in immeasurable pain, when suddenly, the feeling over there became confused. I arrived at a vast plain called "The Great Perfection of the Basis of All." There, a huge stupa appeared, naturally formed and unadorned by human hands. There were many people circumambulating the stupa, and I saw a yogi and a monk having a heated conversation. The monk said, "You yogi are more foolish than a fool, everyone is being deceived by you, you don't understand the true reality at all. You don't understand the ocean-like debates of the sects, and you indulge in wine and women all day long. Do you know what the Protector Vajradhara would say if he heard what you are doing?" He was saying astonishing things, and the yogi said, "Please sit, please sit. The Collected Songs of Drukpa Kunley says, 'Who is in accordance with the Vinaya now? It is most important to be in accordance with the Buddha and the Two Supreme Ones of the Six Ornaments. Otherwise, saying that the Vinaya is in accordance with the ink and paper it is written on is you deceiving people.' There are two kinds of deception, one is deceiving people by pretending to understand the Dharma, and the other is deceiving people by relying on power, there is a difference between these two. Wine and women, only a terrible yogi would do that, hahaha." The monk was angry when he heard this, and prepared to hit the yogi. Seeing that they were about to fight, I couldn't bear it, so I stepped between them and said, "Please don't do this." At this time, another person circumambulating the stupa said, "These two are controlled by intense arrogance, they will never have a time of mutual understanding, it is always like this. You may not be dressed like a monk or a yogi, but you seem to have a kind heart, why don't you take the words of the Buddha as proof and judge them?" So I gathered my thoughts and said, "Alright, please listen to me. The Prophecy of the Mind Resting at Ease says: 'The people of Tibet do not keep their vows, at that time, from Mount Kailash, to Yarlha Shampo, there will be hundreds of thousands of monks in form, only hundreds of thousands will admire the monk's appearance, and less than five hundred will keep their vows properly. The monk's appearance is ruined and the vows are broken, what use will the Sangha be at that time?' Just as the prophecy says, the image of monks today is mostly no different from that of lay people."
