When he was sixty-one years old, the great being who had perfected the qualities of the five paths and resided on the level of the spontaneously accomplished vidyādhara, although there were many disputes about being an emanation, he entrusted the thought of transforming the coarse body into a pure body, saying, "Please call Zur Chungpa from Drak Gyalbo." After he came, he said, "I will entrust this seat of mine to Zur Chungpa. You must benefit the assembly of disciples with the Dharma, and it must be in accordance with their minds. Protect them as I have protected them. The disciples should also regard this Zur Chungpa as having attained the siddhi of the body, speech, and mind of the Great Glorious One, and he is superior to me. Regard whatever he does as good. Do not break his words, and do not be disrespectful even to his shadow, footprints, or clothes. He will protect you as I have protected you, so have complete devotion and respect." Then he went to the Srampa retreat. Once he said to the attendant, "Make the fire early this morning." When the sun rose, the attendant went before him. The lama was sitting in meditation in his bedroom. He asked, "Now that you are sitting in meditation, where are you going?" He replied, "I am going to the Pure Land of Great Bliss. The Great Glorious One is inseparable from me. Pray to the yidam deity." Having said this, in the midst of the sound of the vajra bell, his body transformed into the nature of light and dissolved into the heart of the Great Glorious One. At that time, the offerings from Kham came and coincided with this event. They met the lama on the road. The lama blessed the vision of the people of Kham and accepted the offering of the emanation palace, and made dedications. Again, the people of Kham awoke as if from a dream, and there was nothing there. They walked along in doubt, and on the road they heard the news that the lama, the Great Glorious One, had dissolved into his heart. Such a Great Glorious One has a very great blessing, and in the future, take care of his body, and he said, "Welcome Gya Tong Shakya." When they welcomed him, Gya Tong rode on a white mare, wearing a felt hat, and came. In front of the Great Glorious One, he turned into a white light, circumambulated three times to the left, and actually dissolved into his body. This was clearly seen by the caretaker Majo Donden. Similarly, it is said that Tsen Den Zurmo O'bum also dissolved into his body. Among the four pillars, like a supreme elephant in an elephant herd, is Deshe Gyalwopa, or Zur Chung Sherab Drakpa.

He was a descendant of the mantra-holder Owl Valley family. His father was the Tapa practitioner, who sometimes appeared as a vagrant. He was born to Shama Jösherab Kyi in Yeru Tsang, accompanied by extraordinary and wondrous omens. At the age of seven, he learned to read and write, and at nine, he learned to recite the activities of peaceful and wrathful deities. One time, when he was thirteen, he was reading a book in his bedroom, when a woman came running and said, "The livestock in the field have run away! Are you just going to sleep?" He put on a new lower skirt and was about to cross the river to block the water in the house. The woman said, "You're wasting the clothes I worked so hard on without even leaving a trace!" He didn't throw himself, but threw the clothes over, saying, "The clothes are there!" The woman got angry and said, "You're insulting me!" and ran back to her home. Zur Chungpa became very weary of samsara and took the hair that the woman had left in the pillar. Later, he called out, "Come up here!" hoping she would return, and sat there silently, handing her the hair and saying, "Men are greedy for wealth, and women are greedy for beauty, so take the hair!" The woman was disappointed and went home. There, Zur Chungpa did not consult his father, did not take provisions from his mother, and did not consider the feelings of his friends. He took a sheepskin coat and set off towards Zurpoche. On the way, he met two black tent nomads carrying jade and copper, and a Shangpa man carrying armor, and they traveled together. At that time, Zur Chungpa had nothing to offer except the sheepskin coat. The other three offered gifts. The lama said, "See if they are weary of samsara or not, and give each of them some tsampa and noodles." The two nomads did not want to eat, the Shangpa man ate a little, and Zur Chungpa ate everything. The lama said, "Leave the sheepskin coat and the armor, and return the jade and copper to their owners." The nomads were unhappy and said, "Offering a sheepskin coat is a sign that you will not teach us the Dharma!" and then left. From that auspicious coincidence, the slander of the Zurpa Dharma arose. At that time, the lama asked Zur Chungpa, "What is your lineage?" He was afraid that if he said he was of the same lineage as the lama, it would become a competition, so he said, "I am a small Zur Chungpa." Therefore, he was called that by the lama. The lama knew that he was a promising student, so he let him study, and as a result, his intelligence became extremely outstanding.
