Then, she said, "Because it's male wealth and female wealth," and said, "Bring some dowry." She was discouraged and went home. There, Little Zur didn't ask his father's opinion, didn't take provisions from his mother, and didn't consider his friends' feelings. Instead, he took a worn-out sheepskin coat and went to see Great Zur. On the way, he met two Black Horse nomads carrying turquoise and copper, and a Shangpa man carrying armor, and they traveled together. At that time, Little Zur had nothing to offer except the worn-out sheepskin coat. The other three offered gifts. The Lama said, "See if they are weary of samsara or not, and give each of them some tsampa and noodles." After the Lama spoke, the two nomads didn't want to eat, the Shangpa man ate a little, and Little Zur ate everything without leaving any. The Lama said, "Leave the worn-out sheepskin coat and the armor, and return the turquoise and copper to their owners." The nomads were unhappy and said, "Offering a sheepskin coat is a sign that you won't teach us the Dharma," and then they left. From that connection, the slander of the Zurpa Dharma arose. At that time, the Lama asked Little Zur, "What is your lineage?" Little Zur was afraid that if he said he was of the same lineage as the Lama, it would cause competition, so he said, "I am a Little Zur." Therefore, in Ladakh, he was called that. From then on, the Lama knew he was capable and let him study, and his wisdom became extremely excellent. At first, he was very poor, so he picked up the tormas (offerings) that the Lama had discarded and ate them like tsampa beer. The other monks said, "He smells sour and stinky from the beer, and he doesn't offer the beer to the Lama, nor does he give it to his Dharma brothers." The Lama said, "Today, let Little Zur go to gather firewood." Afterwards, they searched Little Zur's hut, and it is said that under a corpse, there was nothing but a kapala (skull cup) full of tsampa beer. At that time, the Lama said, "When Little Zur has no means of living, come to us." He said, "I

said he would come. There, Zurchungpa diligently applied himself day and night without distinguishing between them in whatever place was for listening, contemplating, and meditating. Since he was an emanation body, the expanse of his wisdom burst forth. Inconceivable experiences and realizations arose, but since he did not even have the means to ask about books, Lhaje Zurpoche said, "In a place called Pan's Khangngon, there are two wealthy female practitioners, mother and daughter, called Jomo Yummo. You should stay here." When I said I would not marry, he said, "Do not belittle your understanding. I know the boundaries of what the Teacher has permitted and forbidden. Use their resources to receive empowerments. Copy scriptures. It is enough to listen to all the Dharma without exception. That way, both of them will complete their accumulations, and your own purpose will also be accomplished. That would be good." Listening as he said, all desires were fulfilled. He also said, "Now, do not stay there. Gradually move the books and other offerings and come here to me." When that was done, was there anything wrong? Both of them also said thank you. "Do not be discouraged. It seems that you will have the ability to benefit beings. In this degenerate age, you must spread the Buddha's teachings and benefit many beings. That is also a great way to repay their kindness. If you hide this, neither your own benefit nor the benefit of others will be accomplished." There, listening as he said, he realized the Lama's intention as it was. Once, Lhaje saw Zurchungpa circumambulating a stupa at the entrance to his residence. His feet did not touch the ground, and he was circumambulating about a cubit above the ground. The Lama thought, "This must be an emanation body," and he was amazed and delighted. Similarly, when Zurchungpa was traveling in other places, and was suffering greatly from the heat in the empty desert, someone appeared to offer him a drink. When he went to meditate on the top of an empty mountain, someone appeared to offer him food because he was hungry, and so on. All the wishes of his heart were effortlessly fulfilled. Now, thinking that even if I benefit beings, it will be accomplished, the Lama also said, "Now, you should teach." There, he taught the Do Gongdu (sutra which embodies the intention), and at one time, three hundred copies were published. At that time, the Lama praised Zurchungpa.
