Thus, these four stages of yoga are based on the inconceivable Ra li Tantra, considering that they can actually be attained, and are taught as substitutes for the grounds and paths. Although some ancient scholars have examined the scriptures, as just mentioned, there is evidence of the source of the Ra li Tantra. When Jowo Je (Atiśa) taught the co-emergent union together between the monasteries of Nyene, it is evident that he quoted the explanation of the four unions from the Hevajra Tantra. Therefore, those who refute it are definitely embodiments of darkness. To consider this tantra as not authentic is merely biased. Therefore, Yang Gonpa, Phawang Khapa, and others have also extensively quoted and explained it. We ourselves, as Rongpa Dzogchenpa said, have consulted the vidyādhara Śrī Siṃha of Oḍḍiyāna, and the experiences of Tsogyal (Yeshe Tsogyal) also clearly show similarities. Scholars and others who refute it also combine the stages of practice of the Mind Series with this and explain it. In particular, in the great mind treasure, the uncontested Grol thig and Dgongs pa rang grol, although the name of the four yogas is not used, it is explained in an excellent way according to the progression of the five paths of the pāramitās. Therefore, for the sake of those who gradually attain realization, it will be explained according to the intention of this key instruction alone. If someone thinks that since the Great Perfection Tantra teaches original liberation, and you explain it here as gradual, wouldn't it be contradictory? It is not so. The teacher Vajradhara, with skillful means, divided the Śrāvakayāna to Atiyoga into nine stages, and also divided and explained the three types of faculties, superior, middling, and inferior, in detail. Therefore, although the Great Perfection is the path for those with the sharpest faculties, it is not the case that all who enter are those with the sharpest faculties. Considering this, the vidyādharas, based on the differences between middling and inferior faculties, also established such a tradition. This method should be seen as the activity of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas with skillful means and great compassion. Thus, with the sun of establishment and refutation, completely dispelling the darkness of wrong views, entering into the actual meaning of what is being said. First, in order to show its similarity to the path of accumulation of the pāramitās, worldly yoga is divided into three

Regarding Yoga: From the Thigle that emerges from the Great Perfection Mind Section, it says: The essence is without grasping, it is the nature of emptiness; the nature is unceasing, vivid and naked. This is called the yoga of the small world. Explaining the meaning and experience of this is: A gradual practitioner, in the presence of a virtuous lama, abandoning distractions, through meditation, becomes certain that the essence of mind is free from the four extremes of existence and non-existence. Having become certain in this way, the clear and non-conceptual calm abiding is recognized and grasped as the nature of meditation, and one meditates by focusing on mindfulness. However, thoughts are more active and changeable than gnats in the sunlight, making one feel that meditation is not progressing, and causing weariness. After this weariness, at some point, the essence of mindfulness becomes clear and uninterrupted, clear and vivid, and a powerful experience of emptiness arises. How long this experience lasts depends on the length of meditation. If one does not meditate, it will dissipate as usual. This is called the small one-pointedness of Mahamudra. Some people presumptuously think that this is the case, but this is just an understanding and cannot lead to accomplishment. Second, the yoga of the intermediate world. As it says therein: If one maintains it without distraction, one will gain greater stability; even if one does not meditate, a part of it remains. This is called the yoga of the intermediate world. Therefore, continuing from the previous stage and striving to cultivate diligence, the grasping of experience becomes slightly clearer than before. Even when not meditating, mindfulness suddenly arises, presenting a state of clear emptiness and nakedness. This is called the intermediate one-pointedness of Mahamudra. Third, the yoga of the great world. As it says therein: The samadhi becomes clearer and brighter than before; it arises effortlessly, day and night, continuously. This is called the yoga of the great world. Therefore, by gaining greater stability, the experience of clear emptiness and nakedness, free from grasping, expands continuously day and night, and this is called the great one-pointedness of Mahamudra. The Great Perfection Mind Section people consider the experience of abiding to be awareness not scattering outward, which is similar to this. In this experience, the body feels bliss and immeasurable joy arises in the mind. Like a candle not being blown by the wind
