This is because there is a great difference. Therefore, the Omniscient One said: "Recognizing appearance as mind, and recognizing mind itself as emptiness, know that this is not the intent of the Heart Essence instructions." In some instructions, it may occur in this way, but it should be determined that it is only to guide those of lower capacity, and not the ultimate meaning. Thus it is said. In this way, the direct perception प्रमाण that appearance is not mind is: sleep, fainting, the two kinds of meditative absorption, and constant unconsciousness, these five states of mindlessness, as explained in the Madhyāntavibhāga, appearance does not go anywhere. Last night in a dream, finding a jewel or enjoying pleasure, feeling happy about it and clinging to it as real, when awake there is nothing, so it can be determined that memory, thought, and red and white appearances arise from sudden causes. Nowadays, the teachings of Dzogchen are declining, and many people rely solely on this recognition, so here, in order to directly point out the path, as it says in Rangshar: "When a lion roars its own sound, all the beasts faint and are afraid. When Dzogchen speaks its own sound, all the lesser vehicles faint." Like this, for those who are not destined to think of cause and effect as the ultimate meaning, and for those who hope to attain Dzogchen through speculation, there may be dissatisfaction and belittlement, but the Omniscient One teaches that thinking of appearance as mind is a great darkness of wrong conception, so it must be eliminated. Because of this admonition, it is explained in detail and the obstacles on the path are cleared away. Second, in an uncommon way, like a blind person opening their eyes, directly giving the instruction: Have the student sit in the posture of unmoving Vajra, accompanied by the ḍāḍril and bell, at the end of reciting the lineage prayer with a melody that transforms appearance, say: "Hey! Your current awareness, do not make any adjustments or contractions, rest directly. For it, there is no existence or non-existence, and no location. Do not distinguish the subtle differences between appearance and emptiness. There are no characteristics of permanence or annihilation. In this unestablished state, there is no need to strive through the effort of contemplation, and it is not like untying a knot, but primordial liberation. Self-illumination that is not fabricated by the mind. Wisdom that is not made by conceptual thought. Dharmatā that is not mixed with contemplation. Samadhi that cannot be established. Post-attainment that cannot be calculated. Clarity without essence. Vastness without distraction. Primordial

Although such a view of abiding is something all sentient beings have never been separated from for even a moment, because they do not recognize it, they wander endlessly in samsara, like water that is naturally free but is bound by ice, with the mind of inner clinging as the cause and the objects of outer grasping as the condition. But now, with the guru's instruction, from the mere recognition of the flaw in the moment of awareness, without fabricating or correcting it in its natural state, without straying anywhere else from it, and without meditating on anything, but simply letting it be, this is a clear revelation of the innermost essence of the mind of the primordial Buddha Samantabhadra. As it says in the "Six Spaces": In the mind-essence that is without permanence or annihilation, the appearance that is free from good and bad is the view that is free from acceptance and rejection; I, Samantabhadra, have taught it. In the mind-essence that is without acceptance or rejection, the appearance of self-liberation without bias is the view of great pervasiveness; I, Samantabhadra, have taught it. In the mind-essence that is without sinking or excitement, the view of great equanimity is the view of the six aggregates being relaxed; I, Samantabhadra, have taught it. In the mind-essence that is without fear, the appearance that is free from hope and doubt is the view of confidence in letting be as it is; I, Samantabhadra, have taught it. And as it says in the "Heap of Jewels": This nature of reality without a root, it is most wonderful to leave it without searching. In the awareness that goes and comes, it is most wonderful that there is no end. In the wisdom of the great original state, it is most wonderful that there is no antidote. And as it says in the "All-Creating King": The Buddhas of the past also did not seek the Dharma outside their own minds. They never corrected what is as it is. They never meditated on conceptual thoughts of samadhi. It is accomplished by not thinking about one's own mind. Those who are present now and those who will come in the future will also be accomplished by non-thought and equality. Thus, according to this vehicle, the essence of the mind is inherently great self-liberation from the very beginning, and recognizing this is called awareness, and by maintaining this continuity, one attains enlightenment forcibly, and therefore it is faster than other paths, so one should rejoice. In addition, dispel doubts and clear away obstacles: When maintaining the continuity of the great self-abiding state in this way, if you think that the essence of that awareness is empty, then the one who imputes emptiness is the mind. The mind has a basis for clinging. Thought with a basis for clinging
