It is said in the Hevajra Abhisamaya Tantra that we ordinary people who want to attain Buddhahood without practice are extremely foolish. Therefore, in order to awaken the profound wisdom that is inherent in our own mindstream, we must diligently follow the guidance of a qualified and virtuous spiritual friend, receiving instruction from the profound path of the three aspects of signs, meaning, and symbols without any distraction. We must not allow ourselves to be controlled by laziness and idleness for even a moment, nor postpone our practice due to attachment to pleasure and the search for food. We must not remain indifferent due to external words, hopes, and doubts. Thinking in this way, we should carefully guard our mindstream, like a mother searching for her only lost child, never chasing after this life for even a moment. We should trample laziness underfoot, swallow procrastination, and overcome idleness. Like a wounded animal or a rhinoceros, we should rely on solitary places and wholeheartedly practice the teachings we have heard. We should contemplate this deeply from the bottom of our hearts. The sixth practice of mind training, from "The Cuckoo": "Worldly enjoyments are like honey produced from poison; the more one enjoys them, the more suffering they produce." As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: "Although they have the intention to eliminate suffering, they run directly towards suffering. Although they desire happiness, due to their delusion, they destroy their own happiness like an enemy." As it is said, we are very ignorant about what to adopt and abandon. We desire happiness, but we only create the causes of suffering. For example, moths love the light of a flame and fly towards it, only to be burned alive and die. Bees are attached to the essence of honey and get stuck or die with their mouths closed while sucking nectar from flowers. Animals are killed because they listen to music. Fish die because they crave the taste of the food on the tip of the hunter's hook. Elephants enter lakes desiring the coolness of touch and drown. As it says in the Doha Treasury: "Fish, moths, elephants, and bees, should be regarded like these wild animals." Therefore, in the mindstreams of us all, there are also hidden, latent defilements, like salt dissolved in water. This is the root of disease.

Just as a person who now appears to be liberated, once encountering a small amount of diet and behavior that triggers illness, the illness will manifest, so it is connected with attachment to the five objects of desire. By diligently creating the cause of the three lower realms—non-virtue—the result can only be to unwillingly experience suffering. Now, to eliminate suffering, it is necessary to eliminate the cause of suffering or the source of its arising—evil. For example, it is not enough to simply take medicine because it is said, "This is pain caused by illness." It is necessary to recognize the cause and nature of the illness, such as the invasion of heat and cold, and then, like taking an antidote, it is necessary to recognize the root of evil—non-virtue. As it says in the Treasury of Knowledge: "Good and non-good of all kinds, the paths of action are said to be ten." When summarized, they are included in the ten non-virtues. Among them, there are three of the body: killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct; four of speech: lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter; three of the mind: covetousness, malice, and wrong view. In general, it goes without saying that killing any kind of sentient being is killing. The subdivisions are: killing with intention, killing with action, and ultimate completion. If all three are complete, then all the non-virtues of killing are complete, and the karmic result is very heavy. Killing with intention is the extent to which the thought of killing arises. Killing with action is due to mistaken cognition, or without the intention to kill, but dying by being stepped on, etc. Now, the number of sentient beings we kill is countless. For these, it is not enough to experience only one non-virtuous result. The result of karmic maturation belongs to the five inexpiable sins, represented by killing parents, teachers, arhats, etc., distinguished by the degree of heaviness. The three lower realms, such as hell, are the result of maturation. As the result of similarity to the cause, even if one temporarily obtains a good rebirth, it is short-lived. As the result of dominance, even if one eats and drinks food and medicine, it has no effect. Stealing is: the basis is that one does not have the right to possess it oneself, but it is a valuable object owned by others, such as gold, etc. Taking by force is to rob by force or to take by judgment. Taking by deception is to deceive through trade, lending, and using irregular measures and scales. Taking by stealth is to steal, or to deceive by saying things like, "I need something like this very much, but I haven't gotten it."
