The Key Instructions on the Seven Branches of the Common Preliminary Practices for Mind Training – The Ladder to Liberation. The Key Instructions on the Seven Branches of the Common Preliminary Practices for Mind Training. Herein is The Ladder to Liberation, the Key Instructions on the Seven Branches of the Common Preliminary Practices for Mind Training. Homage to glorious Samantabhadra! Whose nature is utterly pure, not falling into extremes, unborn and unceasing, free from all elaborations, the naturally present, primordial bodhicitta. Possessing all perfections in all ways, in the three times and timelessness, the unchanging, uncompounded body. To that primordial protector who has six special qualities—selflessness of samsara and nirvana—I bow down. Whose basic display is a play, a dance of the moon in water. Possessing the glory of ripening into the essence of the ocean of existence. Manifesting as a body of light, a network of magical illusion. I pay homage to the Second Buddha, Padmasambhava. The chief of bipeds, the lion among men, the Shakya King and his sons. The two charioteers and the six ornaments, The two supreme ones, the one eye of the world, Shantarakshita. The seven awakened men, Dipamkara Shri, Shakya Shri, the Fifth All-Knowing One, and so forth. Why would one not have faith in those who are the foundation of the teachings, the masters of the three trainings? The Vajrapani hero, the supreme vehicle's teacher Garab Dorje, who bestowed the empowerment by pouring the common royal authority. The king Ja, who is of noble lineage, who received the empowerment of the five mother tantras and the eighteen tantras in volumes. The masters of the meaning lineage of the three yogas, Vimalamitra and Vairochana, and so on, the twenty-five. From the treasury of the five spaces, opening the doors of the profound and vast, having crossed to the far shore of ten times ten, I have faith from the depths of my heart. The subject to be expressed, the scriptures with twelve branches, The meaning to be expressed is emptiness, devoid of inherent existence. The Sage's scriptural and realized teachings, in this land of snows, Are definitely clear, the all-knowing master, the lord of speech. Sutra and tantra, all the teachings, as the complete teachings, On a single seat, reaching the end of the teachings. Without effort, it is the intention of the dharmakaya. Combining the special treasure of the Great Perfection. Therefore, regarding those vast methods of instruction, The seven branches of the common preliminary practices for mind training. Without falling to either side of elaborate or concise, I will explain by taking on the burden with the three valid cognitions. Here, through the gateway of possessing six special qualities of lineage, the peak of the vehicle that is able to teach all the vast Dharma traditions of sutra and tantra on a single seat.

The meaning instruction of the seven preliminary practices of mind training, which are the common path stages for entering the primordial natural Great Perfection, is as follows: My guru, the embodiment of the meaning of Padmasambhava, the omniscient Shantapuri, said: All the scriptures of the Victorious Ones that accomplish higher realms, all their meanings are the path of the lesser person, and the meaning of all the categories of Dharma that strive for the means to accomplish liberation, is the sequence of the path of the intermediate person. As it is said, although this is established as the path of the intermediate person and below due to the division of the subject matter, the essence of the path to be shown in the main part is not only the supreme vehicle, but also the power of each increase of the Bodhicitta of the Great Vehicle is inconceivable. Considering that there is a special Bodhicitta from the very beginning of the path, it is not contradictory to establish it as the path of the great person. Such an establishment of the three types of persons is like the manifestation of the conduct of purity by Tshewang Rigdzin in order to spread the teachings of the three baskets of abandonment and realization again, as Dipamkara (Atisha) showed in the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment. However, in terms of meaning, there is no difference at all, and its essence is only the entry and exit of Dharma terms. Considering this, it is not very famous in the Early Translation School. Even so, because the wisdom that distinguishes phenomena is able to be examined, and because it was established by the great pathfinders of the past, it is known that all the teachings of Sutra and Tantra can be carried by the four-cornered path, so that the ability to freely interpret the scriptures can be established. And, in the Sutra it says: Manjushri, the obscuration of the karma of abandoning the sacred Dharma is small. Manjushri, if someone thinks that some of the Buddha's teachings are good and some are bad, that is a Dharma abandoner. As it is said, in the meantime of the teachings, some one-sided people have contaminated the pure teachings with false chains of speculation and contradiction, and as a result, the Great Vehicle of profound secrecy has no sequence of paths, and they think that it is a special degradation of conduct, and they forcibly think that all phenomena are taught to be without self-nature, and thus they regard the true path as non-Dharma, and then they scold and hate it.
