The retinue made four requests: After the Blessed One passes into nirvana, who shall we take as our teacher? What shall we take as the doctrine? How shall we subdue the group of six? How shall we arrange the teachings at the time of the compilation of the teachings? The Blessed One replied: After I have completely passed into nirvana, after you, you should take mindfulness and awareness as your teacher, and pure morality as the doctrine. The group of six does not need to be subdued; they will go to self-liberation. At the time of compiling my teachings, at the beginning, add the words, "Thus have I heard at one time." At the end, add the words, "The Blessed One spoke, and they rejoiced." Thus he spoke. Therefore, saying "Thus have I heard at one time" at the beginning is to completely repeat the Buddha's teachings without omission, which also depends on the retinue generally abandoning the three faults of the vessel, the six stains, and the five faults of non-grasping when listening to the Dharma, and especially on relying on the merit of obtaining the dharani of non-forgetfulness. The nature of dharani is memory, as the noble Manjushri said: "Dharani means that memory is not lost, thoughts are not distracted, wisdom is not obscured, wisdom is manifested, and the words of all dharmas are known in their various distinctions." Even when just going for alms, one must always maintain mindfulness and awareness, and if one goes to places where dogs are eaten, etc., one will incur great faults that burn the minds of oneself and others, and these must be abandoned. This principle is widely explained in the sutras, as it says in the Cloud of Jewels Sutra: "Son of good family, if a bodhisattva has small roots of virtue, and possesses small roots of virtue, and sees suffering, in order to benefit those beings, he takes the vow to go for alms, and when he goes for alms in a village, city, or near a village, he should be very attentive to establish mindfulness, his conduct should be dignified, his senses should not be agitated, his senses should not be rough, his senses should be subdued, he should look only as far as a yoke's distance, and he should establish mindfulness in virtuous dharmas, and he should go for alms. When he goes for alms,

Therefore, it is to gradually receive alms. First, not entering a village of the Brahmin caste as large and tall as a sala tree, or a village of the Kshatriya caste as large and tall as a sala tree, or a householder as large and tall as a sala tree, or a wealthy village, but starting from one side, one practices alms until the purpose of that day is accomplished. And, from that alms, one portion is left for those who practice equally with Brahma. The second portion is left for those who are suffering. The third portion is left for sentient beings who have fallen into wrongdoing. The fourth portion is eaten by oneself, starting from the concept of "eating moderately, nourishing insects," mindfulness, and so on. Likewise, the alms-seeker is not with the mind of a thief or robber. The necessity of giving is: O Light Protector, one should seek alms thinking of all sentient beings. When there is no food, one should seek food. In order to eliminate attachment to the round food of others, one should go for alms. Bless the empty village, and let you enter the village. One should remember the necessity and basis that were spoken. In general, the actions of body and speech are transformed by the mind. The mind controlled by afflictions is like an elephant drunk with alcohol. At that time, it is not just looking for opportunities, but if the tamer of mindfulness and awareness strikes the head with an iron hook and ties it with a good nose rope, then one can bear the burden of the universally practiced precepts and vows from the Three Baskets to the ocean of Tantras, enter the unobstructed path, and thus touch the state of liberation and omniscience. As it is said: On the ground of conduct: If the elephant of the mind is let loose, it will only cause harm in the Avici hell. If the elephant of the mind is tightly tied with the rope of mindfulness, all fears will disappear, and all virtues will come into hand. As it is said. In particular, the essence of meditation is not separate from mindfulness. Thus, the path of peaceful abiding that transcends the world for Bodhisattvas, namely the four worldly meditations, and the four formless absorptions, plus cessation, these nine are also the abode of special insight.
