Previously not a monk, from today onwards a monk, Heruka glorious excellent monk. If even the nature of this direct teaching of transformation is not remembered, then with a novel argument never heard before, belittling the status of the unsurpassed fruit of mantra, saying that a monk superior to Vajradhara is the third one possessing the three baskets, surpassing with the three disciplines. Placing one's own wisdom and ascetic conduct in a place of licentiousness is unreasonable, therefore one should remember the inconceivable truth of Dharma-nature, thereby gaining insight into the particularly excellent view that is grasped by skillful means. Why is that? Because the perfected asceticism of mantra does not hold the view of the Hearers. The Sutra says: Manjushri, for example, the chick of the bird king Kalavinka, dwelling in the eggshell, even if the eggshell is not broken and has not come out of the shell, it still emits a pleasing sound, the very sound of the Kalavinka. Manjushri, similarly, a Bodhisattva who has entered the eggshell of ignorance, even if he has not destroyed the view of the aggregates, and has not manifested from the three realms, still emits the sound of emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-action, and the Dharma of the Buddhas. Manjushri, for example, if a Kalavinka enters a peacock, it will not emit the sound of a Kalavinka; if it enters a Kalavinka, it will emit the sound of a Kalavinka. Manjushri, similarly, if a Bodhisattva enters a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha, he will not emit the sound of inconceivable Dharma; if he enters a Bodhisattva, he will emit the sound of inconceivable Buddha-Dharma. As it is said, great wisdom Bodhisattvas explain their views in accordance with which vehicle's nature primarily tames beings, therefore one should realize the state of the six extremes and the four modes. Merely claiming to be a monk who has entered the path and possesses the three vows, when abiding, one should abide separately; when guarding, one should guard one's own category without mixing; when possessing, one should increase upwards; when confessing, one should also confess in accordance with the self-tradition of the three schools, all of which abide in meaning. All of these, if not relying on the ritual of mindfulness and awareness, cannot be truly accomplished, as the Bodhicaryavatara says: Those who wish to protect the precepts,

Therefore, one should diligently guard one's mind. If one does not guard this mind, one cannot guard the training. As it is said: For those who wish to guard their minds, guard mindfulness and awareness with all diligence. I prostrate with folded hands in this way. Likewise, if mindfulness is lost, the armor of patience is also lost. Although one has the ability to endure harmful situations, if one does not remember at the moment of circumstances and conjunction, it will be too late to reverse. What should be remembered is that these sentient beings are under the control of afflictions. If there is no self, then there is no cause for harm to them. If there is nothing to be harmed, then where does the harmer come from? The aggregation of one's own aggregates, elements, and sense bases is the cause. A perfect or deficient, or unseemly physical or verbal action is the condition. They appear like targets of harm. The fault is not with them. It is because one has taken this body, been born in such a place, come from these parents, been called by this name, and dwells in this place, that the clinging to "I" and "mine" arises. Therefore, it is more important not to focus on the faults and actions of others. In this regard, in the Bodhisattva Pitaka, two places are taught where one should remember the patience of practice and the patience of understanding the nature of reality. The first is: In the presence of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. If all sentient beings come again and again to scold, or speak unpleasant words, or speak harsh words, or strike or hit with stones, sticks, and weapons, but the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to perfect the perfection of patience should not generate even a little anger, nor should they generate harmful thoughts. Generally, one should generate compassion for those sentient beings, thinking: Alas! These sentient beings are tormented by the karma of afflictions. I will not generate hateful thoughts towards them. This is the fault of taking these aggregates as enemies. Thus, it is said that one should generate compassion for them. The second is: Because one's own mindfulness is lost, one is controlled by delusion, and appearances are mixed with objects. Because one grasps the harmer as the harmer, they become mutually dependent, and their power becomes stronger.
