It can be accomplished. For the work of pervasive discrimination, meaning is lost due to forgetting. Things are ruined due to forgetting. Excesses occur due to forgetting. Madness sets in. Consciousness is confused. Possession by spirits occurs. Saying that words don't convey meaning, all of this is due to the failure of mindfulness. If we look at the path to be practiced from the perspective of Nirvana, first, those who do not remember the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, the connection to encounter the Dharma will not be complete. Even if one enters the path of Dharma by chance, one will immediately deviate from the right path, because one does not have mindfulness and awareness of the precepts established by the teacher. Death is also not remembered at all, because of forgetting death, all actions are for the sake of this life. At that time, the uninstructed mind will forget the cause and effect of the ten non-virtues to be abandoned and the ten virtues to be cultivated, neither remembering the faults of samsara nor the benefits of liberation. One is distracted by noise and household affairs, and from this arises pride, and the benefit of future lives is lost, and forgetting is like a fool drunk with alcohol. How is that? In the "Array of Merits Sutra" it says: For example, if a person is drunk with alcohol and becomes violent, that person's mind cannot find a home, nor can he find a road, nor does he have awareness of parents, wife, children, nor does he remember the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Due to the power of drunkenness, even if he is in a cemetery, he does not feel fear, thinking: Who can make me afraid? Is it a god, a Naga, or a Yaksha? Similarly, those who are drunk with the satisfaction of desire, dwell in the home and are confused, those whose minds are intoxicated by distraction, will not seek the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, nor will they remember generosity, nor will they seek to be reborn in heaven, to become a king, or to be reborn in a Buddha-field, but will wander in samsara, and sentient beings will experience suffering in hell, the animal realm, and the world of Yama. As it is said, because of forgetting the future life, one does not remember to give alms. Even if one has immeasurable wealth, one does not remember to transform it into merit, so one will go empty-handed at the time of death. Even though there is a field of merit like the Teacher, the Bhagavan, it is like the end of the water...

The karma of stinginess causes rebirth as a hungry ghost. Therefore, once mindfulness arises regarding the merits of hearing, the power of wisdom will grow stronger and stronger from small offerings to great offerings to complete offerings of material things. Remembering the specific points of the Bodhisattva vows and mantra vows can also overcome the weariness of guiding others onto the path of Dharma. Even if one sees or hears fearful places, if one remembers, "I am definitely a Mahayana practitioner with the characteristics of a great person," one can give fearless protection in many ways. If one's own strength is not enough, one will also bear the burden of immeasurable compassion and suffering. If mindfulness is lost, there will be a situation where one claims to be a Mahayana practitioner but has neither compassion nor realization. Some say they have realization but cannot generate compassion. This indicates that although they have understanding, realization has not yet arisen. Father Dampa said, "If compassion does not arise, realization does not arise, like a fish entering water, not entering thirst." This statement is very important. Similarly, the breaking of vows also arises from not remembering shame and awareness. If one remembers these, one will not fear the ridicule of the world and the faults of deceiving the Khenpo and Acharya, and one will restrain the negative aspects of body, speech, and mind that should be abandoned, or collect the virtuous Dharmas of the positive aspects, and the contaminated vows held for the benefit of sentient beings. Due to the loss of mindfulness, even a Bhikshu like Stainless Light was seduced by a prostitute with drugs and mantras, leading to the breaking of vows. Later, when he regained his mindfulness, he felt intense regret and cried out to the Bhikshus. They also urged him to go to Manjushri to eliminate his faults, just as Manjushri had urged others. Manjushri also took him to the Buddha. The Buddha showed him the characteristics of ultimate emptiness, enabling him to see the truth. This and the Angulimala Sutra, etc., although it is not established whether it is necessary to distinguish between definitive and provisional meanings, ultimately, if the teachings are perfected, one can also know the faults of the transformation of the nature of the three vows with the wisdom that purifies the place of abandonment and acceptance. In this way, the basis of all three vehicles is vows, the basis of vows is mind, and the ritual of distinguishing between abandonment and acceptance is established in the mind, thereby accomplishing the vows of the three types of beings (Shravaka, Bodhisattva, and Tantrika). This is a skillful means.
