If one thinks that without relying on (a lama), one cannot encounter the profound suchness, that is true. Because in this snowy land (Tibet), meditators who do not rely on listening and thinking do not even understand the dependent arising of the appearance of samsara from the nature of the eight aggregates of consciousness. Moreover, they grasp the un-obscured, un-indicated alaya-vijñana as the three parts of maturation, seed, and consciousness, and bind it with the rope of mindfulness, mistaking it for calm abiding; they cling to the invisible afflicted mind as self; they are attached to "I"; those with "I"-pride are deluded by the meaning of no-self, and speculative thinkers mistake the wisdom that thinks it is emptiness for insight; those who establish the nature of the six entering consciousnesses, which arise and cease in various ways in an instant and are not constant, as subsequent attainment, and loudly proclaim the arrogant words of holding their own view as supreme, in order to cut these off, rely on conventional terms to seek the ultimate truth; relying on wisdom arising from thought, they mistake the empty and constant nature of reality for eternalism; and those who understand the definitive and non-definitive meanings of all three turnings of the wheel of Dharma, such as the Sravakas who are proponents of enumeration, understand all tenets, and in order to realize the nature of Dharma that is close to the profound meaning, rely on discriminating wisdom to obtain forbearance of the unborn Dharma, as stated in the noble Golden Light Sutra: "Correctly knowing the faults of samsara and the benefits of nirvana, and correctly discriminating, this is the meaning of going to the other shore. Fully accomplishing forbearance of the unborn Dharma, this is the meaning of going to the other shore." Having understood these points, we have not relaxed our respect for the aspects of listening and thinking. Even so, the meaning realized by wisdom arising from meditation does not involve the elaboration of words, letters, and terms. Therefore, there is no acceptance of view, abandonment of mental engagement in practice, freedom from acceptance and rejection in conduct, and no hope and fear in result. All the scriptures that teach these are considered to be merely the reverse of knowledge that has attained the ultimate of profound definitive meaning. In the state of equipoise, the four—view, practice, conduct, and result—are merely superimpositions. As stated in the sutra: Without letters...

Regarding all dharmas, what is listening and what is teaching? Superimposing on the unchanging, one listens and teaches. Thus it is clear. The image of evil greatly hates the Dharma. Reversing it like that has immeasurable benefits. If that also follows one's own intention, this is the clear ornament of the practice lineage's teachings. The wise and powerful Chakzam (Iron Bridge) incarnation, Tenzin Lhundrup Pal Zangpo, urged the removal of the exaggerations made by earlier scholars on the two verses that show the definitive meaning of the Shangpa Kagyu's instructions. Dzogchenpa Rangjung Dorje composed this in Palden Pema Odling. Chapter Twenty-two of the Collection of Discourses.

Arising from giving. Among the foolish who meditate much but hear little, the old monkey does not seem so strange. Now listen again, in this land of snow (Mount Kailash), even those who have become authorities, due to their own sect's previous attachment, are all composing vast texts of refutation and establishment. Hasn't you noticed that the decline of the teachings and sectarian strife are like huge waves? Especially now, the two, Mahamudra and Dzogchen, rather than distinguishing profound differences in their own fields, when the view becomes the pure white of the same container, taking the connection of bad commentaries, and placing the view in the mind, even the terminology of words and letters, has become meaningless wandering. Even if a hundred thousand suns of eloquence, of establishment and refutation, Madhyamaka-prasangika, rise, one must cut off faults and abandon false words. The teachings of the victorious ones, possessing three kinds of faith, from where do they turn away, with foolish faith, lifting up their own sect, stirring up with ignorance. I do not trust in that. The place where the first subjugation falls, is only the lord of the scriptures. Transferring the vows of limitless pure appearances to another place, seeing the faults of attachment and aversion that arise from dependence, the answer to the question regresses even more than ashes. Alas, the teachings of the Kagyu lineage, do not establish the image of speculation, but take renunciation, devotion, and pure vision as the core, purifying karma, afflictions, ripened results, and obscurations. If one purifies with non-conceptualization, then it only benefits those who are certain. For the initial practitioner, completely cut off with a peaceful mind, for those who seek fame and spread far and wide, distracting their minds with the path of painting, this is not a sign of the path, because it is the blessing of the Lord of the Desire Realm. Disgust for that increases even more. In reality, fearing the thorns of meditation, one only approaches solitary places. Because of being stained by the habits of karmic winds, for places of revealing others' faults and rambling speech, one feels deeply weary and annoyed. Therefore, regarding knowing and not knowing, etc., even if the eight worldly concerns have transcended nirvana, if you still cannot calm down, then who should you turn to again? The Thirty-third Chapter of the Collection of Talks ends. The Thirty-fourth Chapter of the Collection of Talks, a talk on analyzing the ultimate meaning of nominalism, called "The Drum of the Gods." A talk on analyzing the ultimate meaning of nominalism, called "The Drum of the Gods." Homage to the glorious Vajra Sharp One! This has two parts: a general discussion of what is to be known and what knows, and direct doubts and thoughts.
