These bees, not harming each other, but being intimate and friendly, may I also generate the merit of Bodhicitta. Because there are no childish friends there, one does not encounter inherently bad behavior. Even wild animals avoid me from afar, departing with their anger subsided. Not relying on food and drink prepared by seizing others' wealth and lives through various deceptions, the herds of wild animals are peaceful and tame, always maintaining a gentle state. My mind also becomes soft and calm, unable to be shaken by the power of the senses. Even the lords of death pay homage with folded hands to the hermits dwelling in the forests, who would not delight in a solitary forest? The necessity of going to such a solitary place is to avoid being deceived by the appearances of external objects. Because external objects and the grasping mind are mutually dependent, being the nature of the dependent and the depended upon. Firmly wear the armor of courage, rely on mindfulness, and continuously exert effort. For thoughts of desire, anger, attachment, and miserliness, cherish the state of being without refuge and root, like being struck by a sudden hailstorm. If you do not don the armor of courage, various appearances and conditions will deceive and entice you, more easily than a monkey's theatrical performance, deceiving you with illusions that are even faster. The courage to endure others' wrongdoings, and the vow to endure hardships for the sake of the Dharma, if the initial practitioner does not generate steadfast perseverance, how can understanding of the profound meaning arise? Therefore, as much as harm increases, examine and analyze well the causes and results of the harm, which arise from oneself. Meditate on joy for how much benefit of patience is gained. The evils of associating with the demons of busyness, sinful companions, and childish friends will destroy discipline, break many vows, cause the Dharma to decline, and be condemned by the world. Therefore, be diligent and cautious as if protecting a wound, feel ashamed for oneself, and even fear vulgar and frivolous words, become accustomed to guarding mindfulness. Even when dwelling in solitude, one may, through sleep and laziness, be like defaulting on the debt of vows. Overcome the demon of laziness, which deceives oneself, without delay, by the power of diligence.
