The appearances of the assembled mind, that mind-essence, the basis of non-duality, is called the unmoving lord of self-born wisdom, luminous and free from elaboration. So it is said. Some people say that appearances are mind, taking the mind's creation of appearances as primary. But to consider appearances themselves as mind is to fall into the trap of considering mind-essence as something with substance, which is highly unreasonable. As the tantra 'Collected Meanings of Definitive Meaning' says: 'Saying appearances are mind is like turning copper into gold. Ignorance dispels and self-mind is lost. Therefore, the Dharmakaya is immutable. The wisdom body is free from grasping and without mind. That meaning is inseparable from the realm of enlightenment. Samadhi free from mind constantly abides.' Furthermore, the great omniscient one (Longchenpa) said: 'Nowadays, ignorant people say that in Dzogchen, appearances are considered to be mind.' This is highly unreasonable, because the mind would then be considered to have color, be identifiable, and have directional parts, because appearances are like that. Therefore, when various appearances appear to the mind, one should understand that they are like reflections in a magical mirror, without substance in reality, but appearing in the mind's eye as having the nature of habitual delusion. So it is said. Therefore, when thoughts and concepts abide without inherent existence, this is appearance. This is mind, and because there is no self-nature in such a concept, the essence of mind is vast and impartial, like a mirror. Although various appearances arise, one should understand that the nature of the dissolution of the elaboration of one and many into the expanse is inconceivable. It is crucial not to regard the habitual delusion of the perverse notion that appearances are mind as the actual state of affairs. If we divide this into seven, the first is the mind-biased, who claim that it belongs to the category of mind. Like this, all appearances of the outer world and the beings within it are the play or power of the mind. Although they appear in various ways, because mind-essence itself has no essence, appearances also have no essence. Because the phenomena of appearance-dependent do not exist, the play of mind arises from mind and appears to mind. Although it arises in the mind, because the mind-essence of the basis of arising has no essence, it is not considered that the play and the mind are one or different. Therefore, the great chariot Longchenpa said: 'That is merely showing that appearances as external objects are not established as external objects, but everything is self-born.'

Regarding my wisdom, whether or not it is grasped, whether it appears as pure or impure samsara and nirvana, the place of appearance and the one who appears are pure in the dharmadhatu, this is the special characteristic here. Thus it is said. Second, the mind's inclination to regard the result as the source of the mind is: the result is called the original dharmadhatu, because the dharma nature is unchanging, the mind has no change, because it is believed that the dharmata is self-liberated, the appearance of the basis of liberation abides spontaneously. All the illusions that appear as the three realms and the environment and beings, although they do not exist in reality, appear. From the aspect of non-existence, they do not move or shift from the ground, they do not change, so they are empty with the self-nature of impurity. From the aspect of appearance, they first arise from the dharmadhatu, now abide in the dharmadhatu, and ultimately are liberated into the dharmadhatu, like the illusion of the sky. Without being made, the three realms establish the foundation, samsara has no beginning, and ultimately the unborn spontaneous accomplishment establishes the foundation. This is called the original establishment, so from the beginning it cannot be liberated by antidotes. Self-established awareness does not depend on antidotes, and because there is no effort, it is called spontaneous accomplishment that is free from various extremes. Third, the mind's inclination to return to deviation and obscuration is: all eight stages are fabricated by conceptual thought, so they become dharmas that deviate from the ground, and have not become true. Relying on the spontaneous accomplishment of non-bias, it deviates from all extremes such as existence and attachment. Because it deviates from the causeless self-arisen, it has not become true. Here, the essence of self-arisen wisdom is free from conceptual thought, with the key of returning to causes and conditions, the dharma nature of self-appearance without action, the great emptiness is free from conceptual thought of memory, thought, discrimination, and attachment. The appearance of objects that appear as impure, initially has no basis of origin, now lacks the characteristic of abiding here, and ultimately has no dharma of going and the goer. Therefore, it is the basis that transcends cause and effect. Obscuration is beyond the path, so it is not stained by good and bad karma, therefore it is the great liberation of the three realms. Liberation and confusion, abandonment and antidote, all return to the equality of no basis. Fourth, the mind's inclination to collapse the source of reason is: because knowing that the mind's inclination has no grasp, it is called the source of fabricated dharma samsara and nirvana being destroyed, therefore for the true meaning of the ground
