Becoming a thorn in the heart due to Devadatta's jealousy and pride in his strength, he seized the elephant's neck with his left hand and struck it with the palm of his right hand, killing the elephant, thinking, "If this young Siddhartha does not become a Chakravartin, then what elephant can be offered later?" So he did it. Then his younger brother Nanda came and, to dispel Devadatta's arrogance and demonstrate his power, he grabbed the elephant's tail and threw it seven steps from the doorway. Later, the Bodhisattva came and, to demonstrate the power of both, without dismounting from the chariot, he grabbed the elephant's tail with the thumb of his right foot and threw it a yojana away from the city, causing the ground to sink in, which became known as the Elephant Hollow. There, the faithful built a stupa, and the gods also praised him with verses. Then, all the rivals who had come to compete in the arts and the crowds who had come to watch the spectacle came out of the city and, after arranging the seats, (they began the competition), which included various artistic forms such as writing, numbers, arithmetic, jumping, swimming, racing, and wrestling. No one could find a flaw in the Bodhisattva, and all the gods and humans praised him, exclaiming, "Ema ala ala!" Then, they began the archery competition, with the common people hitting one or two arrows, Devadatta hitting three, Nanda hitting five, and the Bodhisattva hitting seven, each arrow piercing through the oil, unmatched by anyone. There, they began to compete in chopping, with Devadatta chopping one iron horse, Nanda chopping two, and the Bodhisattva chopping seven Tala trees, drums, pigs, etc., piercing through the oil. Where the iron arrow was inserted, the Naga pulled it out, leaving a mark, and the faithful built a stupa there as well. Even though the young Shakyas were still unconvinced and challenged again, the Bodhisattva's power grew stronger and stronger, suppressing the arrogance of all the conceited strongmen and raising the victory banner of mastering sixty-four arts. Regarding the conduct of the queen's entourage at play: Afterwards, (the Bodhisattva) again rode in a chariot and returned to Kapilavastu (established around the 6th century BCE, located in present-day Nepal), and the soothsayers predicted that if this young man did not renounce the world at the age of twelve, he would become a Chakravartin. Therefore, (King Suddhodana) appointed him as his regent and married him to Grakshma as his queen.

He also took a consort with twenty thousand attendants. Similarly, when the daughter of Shakya Bell Sound Woman was residing on the splendid mansion, the prince saw her from the chariot and his heart was moved, so he welcomed her as a consort along with twenty thousand attendants, and they enjoyed happiness. Later, when the daughter of Shakya Time Good, named Wild Deer Born, was looking out from the window, the prince threw a pearl necklace that coiled around the girl's neck. When the crowd saw this, they reported it to the king, and Wild Deer Born was also welcomed along with twenty thousand attendants. There, in addition to the sixty thousand attendants of the consorts, plus the twenty thousand previously offered by the king, he enjoyed the abundance of desirable qualities with eighty thousand consorts until the age of twenty-nine. Although he enjoyed the desirable qualities, he knew the appearance of desirable qualities as illusory, and was not tainted by the fault of self-grasping, and did not deviate from the sacred conduct. The act of definitely going forth was: At that time, the victorious ones of the ten directions urged from the sound of musical instruments, saying: "Become a Buddha in the absence of death and sorrow! Satisfy the thirst-stricken with nectar! Remember the supreme words of your former aspiration! Quickly manifest from this city!" Having heard this, he knew it as a sign of definitely going forth, and with determination, he had the charioteer drive the chariot from the east gate of the city to the eastern pleasure garden. On the way, he saw a Brahmin emanated by the gods, whiter than hail, with a thin and trembling body, appearing old and decrepit. He asked what it was. The charioteer said, "This god is called old age. Old age means that one will soon die. Am I also not exempt from the law of old age? The gods are also not exempt from the law of aging." Hearing this, his heart was momentarily saddened, and he turned back. Similarly, on the road going out from the south gate, he saw the suffering of being afflicted by illness; on the road going out from the west gate, he saw a dead person placed on a stretcher, and the mourners making sounds of lament; on the road going out from the north gate, he saw monks who were peaceful, disciplined, and virtuous. Then, he remembered the faults of household life and the benefits of liberation.
