Since you understand the key points and have encountered the profound path of the Mahayana, why not cultivate the special Bodhicitta? Therefore, you must cultivate from the depths of your heart the compassion for your parents who are tormented by the suffering of the endless ocean of samsara. As the Compendium says: "Those who desire to attain Buddhahood should not study many dharmas, but should study one dharma. What is it? It is great compassion. Whoever has great compassion, all the Buddha's dharmas will be like having them in the palm of their hand." Thus it is said. We people, let alone giving up our lives with compassion, even in each session, there are few who can generate compassion in their minds. In this way, let alone omniscience, there is not even the hope of liberation. Why? Because for those who seek liberation and enlightenment, Bodhisattvas have also countless times disregarded their lives, exchanged self and others, and generated Bodhicitta. It is like this: In the past, when Shakyamuni Buddha himself was born as King Padma, there was a time when a severe plague broke out in his territory, and many people died. The king summoned the doctors and asked what could be done. They said, "It would be good if there was the meat of the Rohita fish. We don't know what else can cure the disease, because we are shrouded in the shadow of the disease." On the morning of an auspicious day, the king bathed, put on new clothes, observed the fast, offered vast offerings to the Three Jewels, and prayed earnestly. With extreme compassion for the sick, he made the vow, "May I be reborn as the Rohita fish in the reversing river immediately after my death." After saying this, he jumped from the top of the palace. Immediately, by the power of his vow, the king was miraculously born as that fish in the reversing river. It said in human language, "I am the Rohita fish, eat my flesh!" So everyone took the fish meat. When the meat on one side was finished, they turned it over and cut the meat on the other side. In this way, when the meat on one side was finished, the meat on the other side grew back, and they ate it in turn, and everyone was freed from the disease. Then, it said to the people, "I have done this for you. In return for my kindness, please abandon evil and do whatever good you can." They also did as it said. After that

Therefore, they will not fall into evil destinies, so it is said. Therefore, in order to pursue Bodhi, one must cultivate great compassion that cherishes others more than oneself. Some people think that it is the work of the Buddha, and ordinary people cannot do it, so they just talk about it and become discouraged. It is not necessarily so. In a previous story, in a place called Jasa Kokha (བྱ་ས་ཀོ་ཁ།), six monks and a cook got into a boat. When the boat had gone about a quarter of the way, the boatman said, "It's a bit heavy. If anyone knows how to swim, please come down and help, or I'll go down and one of you bail water." But none of them knew how to do either. The cook said, "Rather than everyone dying together, it's better for me to die alone." Then he jumped into the water. As soon as he jumped in, a rainbow appeared and a rain of flowers fell. It is said that although he did not know how to swim, he did not die because of his pure Bodhicitta. It is said that that person had not practiced the Dharma much before, but once a pure intention arises, one can do that and produce such a result. Therefore, one must repeatedly think about those events and generate the courage to adjust one's motivation. If you have not done this before, even if you recite the Bodhicitta text hundreds of thousands of times, you will not be able to generate genuine Bodhicitta. Therefore, it depends entirely on mind training with great compassion as the cause. If its essence is all condensed, as our own tradition says: Loving-kindness is the mind without hatred; compassion is the mind without attachment; Bodhicitta is the mind without ignorance. Thus, in sequence, relating to the three pitakas and trainings, restraining one's own continuum from the side of non-virtue is the training of discipline; increasing the higher good, such as meditation, is the training of mind; accomplishing the two benefits and distinguishing what is to be known is the training of wisdom. They are also explained in sequence as abandoning misdeeds, accumulating good deeds, and accomplishing the welfare of sentient beings. It is taught in conjunction with the emptiness of the three. Therefore, without reversing compassion, one should use the three doors of body, speech, and mind for virtuous actions for the benefit of all sentient beings, and vow to place them on the ground of Buddhahood, without separating from that aspiration. All beings who have become limitless in the expanse of space.
