Furthermore, Vajrasattva, marked by a half vajra at the tip and residing in the center of the vajra, and the Vajra Proud Mother of the bell, symbolize the union of skillful means and wisdom in which faces are equally joined. Therefore, when ringing the bell, it is said that one should hold the vajra and bell with the thumb and ring finger of each hand, opening the mouth of the dhuti channel, and move the eight channels to generate the wisdom of bliss and emptiness, that is, ringing the bell by moving it in eight directions. Moreover, in the commentary on the Four Seats Tantra, it says, "During the time of offering tormas and so forth, one should not accomplish the practice with only the vajra without the bell, or only the bell without the vajra, but should accomplish it by joining them together." As it is said, when holding the vajra and bell, one should hold both together, and if one rings the bell with only one hand, or rings the bell with both hands, it is a manifestation of not understanding even a little of the symbolism of secret mantra, which is clearly revealed outwardly, like a child's game. Secondly, the emptiness inside the bell's cavity, the nature of space, symbolizes the profound emptiness, the realm of reality whose limits cannot be determined anywhere. The tongue hanging in the center of it is called the staff of wisdom, and when it moves, because the object, emptiness, and the subject, great bliss, arise simultaneously, the sound of the Dharma of undifferentiated wisdom pleases all the Tathagatas of the ten directions, and awakens beings from the deep sleep of habitual patterns, realizing the pure suchness, thereby uprooting the suffering of existence. Like this, if one does not understand even that much of the inner and outer purification combination just mentioned, but sits on a high seat, abiding in the asceticism of a frog in a well, and occupies the position of Vajradhara, it is like hanging a bell around the neck of an ordinary animal. Nowadays, some people, when inviting, hold the vajra upright and learn to use it as an incense burner, which is extremely foolish. Although what they say is not worth refuting, they have never heard the explanation of the vajra and bell from the tantras, so they speak nonsense, which is pitiful! and without distinction.

E! In the Sambuta, it says: "That mindless yogi, is like an elephant ringing a bell. That yogi is inferior, he thinks his accomplishment is far away." It also says that if one does not understand this principle, ringing a bell is no different from tying a bell to an elephant's waist, so it is said that accomplishment is far away, which is very important. Thus, the establishment of the bell has been explained in a very concise and non-contradictory way. Now, the third topic, the establishment of the hand drum, will be explained in three parts: the nature of the hand drum, the way to play it, and the necessity. Firstly, as the glorious Sambuta says: "After that, the nature of the hand drum is explained, the root of the Vajra head, and what is born from red sandalwood, whatever else is those, can be used for what is desired in the mind." As it is said, Vajra (藏文:བཛྲ,梵文天城体:वज्र,梵文罗马拟音:vajra,汉语字面意思:金刚) refers to the tree with Vajra, and head (藏文:ཤྲིཪྵ,梵文天城体:शीर्ष,梵文罗马拟音:śīrṣa,汉语字面意思:顶) refers to the root of the sandalwood bull's head, as it is explained. The latter is easy to understand, if it is made of those three materials, it is excellent, but if it is not found, it is said that it is okay to make it with any tree. The measurement of its size is: The scripture says: "Twelve and ten, the mouth is six fingers five. Nine and eleven, the mouth is half of that." Thus, the height of the large one is twelve fingers, and the mouth width is six fingers. The height of the medium one is ten fingers, and the mouth width is five fingers. Also, as the Vajrakila Tantra says: "Human skull sandalwood wood, eight ten or twelve fingers, nine fingers finger twelve fingers measure. Mouth width four fingers five six, nine half eleven half made." Thus, it is slightly smaller than the newly made base, and the height of the small one is eight fingers. The height is eleven fingers, and the mouth width is six and a half fingers. They also divide the height into three equal parts, and take the middle third as the height of the waist. The scripture says: "Other small drums, the head drum is surrounded." Thus, when a man is sixteen years old and a woman is twelve years old, their semen and blood drip separately, and when those two are combined, happiness is born. Therefore, as a condition for increasing the wisdom of bliss and emptiness, the skulls of a sixteen-year-old man and a twelve-year-old woman are taken, and their crowns are joined and tied together, which is called "eight backs joined together," it should be known.
