Thereafter, no matter how many thoughts arise, no matter how much one meditates, one cannot be liberated. Therefore, they all agree that one should not think about anything, and not cling to anything. The Pacification school also holds this view. Padampa said, "When the five senses are clear, the mind consciousness does not wander, this is the profound means of Mahamudra." He also said, "When lying down alone in secret, it is placing awareness nakedly. When sitting among many people, it is looking at the sense gates as they appear." He also said, "When practicing immaculate awareness, do not use the meditation of the mind to help, that will become an obstacle." And so on, all of these agree that one should not think about anything. However, merely for the sake of initially revealing the weaknesses of the mind, and practicing the skill of placing the basis of reality upon discussion, the Madhyamikas have calm abiding and insight meditation, as well as methods such as crushing into atoms; the Mahamudra school has sudden cutting through, effortless spontaneity, spontaneous arising of the original, and so on; the Dzogchen school has tracing back the source of arising, observing the source of dwelling and movement, determining the destination, and so on. Each with the certainty of the key instructions, applying the function of mind to mind, thereby engaging in outward-looking discrimination and observation, which is very similar to the key instructions of the Khenpo's tracing back. If, after obtaining an undeluded recognition of reality, one does not place awareness in its natural state, but instead there are things to observe, things to meditate on, things to analyze, and things to think about, then this is only a fabricated, alternating view, and not even a trace of the all-supreme secret path, and the pure calm abiding of a true yogi. Considering this way, the omniscient Fifth Dalai Lama said, "Clinging to empty debates and arguments, and revolving with the wheel of false words, will not even come close to approaching the city of liberation." This shows that the mind's discrimination cannot see the true meaning. Furthermore, Gonpawa said, "Do not meditate on the original meditation with the mind, do not change the natural state with fabrication. Do not intentionally meditate on non-discrimination, let the mind rest in its natural state, and erect a watchtower." Furthermore, Drogon Shang Rinpoche said, "As long as the mind can analyze, no matter how profound the realization, it is not reality. As long as there is clinging to the seer and the seen, it is impossible to realize the non-dual reality." Furthermore, Khulungpa said: Mind and
