Now, regarding this, Arya Deva cites the example of throwing a stone at a lion and throwing a stone at a dog, which is very true. Why? If you throw a stone at a lion, the lion will leave the stone where it is and pounce on the thrower, so it won't be hit by a stone again. If you throw a stone at a dog, the dog will leave the thrower alone and chase after the stone, so it will be hit by countless stones again, just like that. Looking at thoughts and looking at the one who generates thoughts, these two have the difference between looking outward and looking inward. Also, it is true to say that you have not understood how to directly take the appearance of the six consciousnesses. Here, the six consciousnesses refer to the six, including the five sense faculties and the mind consciousness. For example, when the ear consciousness clearly hears a sound, without doing any analysis or thinking about the sound, it is said to directly take the sound to the state of self-awareness, innate awareness that obtains the sound, without generating conceptual thoughts. The same applies to other sense consciousnesses. This can be understood by studying the meaning of "Thus, the appearance in the field of vision" etc. in the seventh chapter. So, if it is said that there are six consciousnesses, does it mean that there are six consciousnesses? It is not like that. The single alaya consciousness, because there is wind inside the roots of each sense object, the wind leads it, and the mind acts like riding a horse, doing activities such as hearing. For example, if a house has five holes and you put a monkey in it, the monkey sticks its head out of all the holes, and it looks like there are many monkeys, but in reality, you don't need five monkeys. Or, if you light a big lamp in that house, the five holes will appear like fire, but that doesn't require five lamps. You should understand this through this example. Therefore, understand that the manifestation of consciousness is the miracle of the single consciousness. Having done that, if you leave it as it is without any modification, then the six consciousnesses will become free memory, or, by directly taking it, you can understand that there are no six consciousnesses. If you investigate this reason, you will understand that those who consider themselves to have high views and meditation have actually achieved nothing. This is the teaching to Vagindra Dharmakirti. Spending a year in a dark retreat is better than spending a month in silence. Padmasambhava said so. In general, the blessing of speech, and understanding sound and emptiness as the sound of mantra, etc., are the vastness of the secret mantra path. But in the beginning stage, it is like that.

From the increase of thinking "it is," in order to reach the ground of the complete exhaustion of illusion, for the spontaneously accomplished sound-emptiness mantra, without modification, to directly understand, one must have immeasurable certainty. Because being obscured by human language, it will rob the power of the mantra, etc., many obstacles will arise, so one needs something to divide the boundary, this is how I understand it. This is my reply to what Syar Trulku Rinpoche wrote, in order to understand me as the mantra, it seems that there is no need to cut off speech. In short, the virtuous deeds with fabrication, when there is no non-fabrication, if it is interrupted, will it be better? If one realizes the nature of non-fabrication as it is, abandoning distractions and companions, and abiding in focused meditation, then, as it is said in Dzogchen, one should let go of the nine activities. Similarly, Lord Milarepa also said: Pure Lhaje, when meditating on Mahamudra, do not strive for virtuous deeds of body and speech, there is a danger of losing non-conceptual wisdom, abide in the uncorrected natural state. As it is said, in order not to feel the blowing of the karma wind, it is of course better to keep the three doors in effortless effort. However, we practitioners of the degenerate age, if we need to accommodate companions and chats, and the distractions of this life, if we abandon those virtuous deeds, but cannot abandon idle talk, etc., we will violate our vows, and I fear that our lives will be spent meaninglessly in mountain caves. Therefore, in a state that does not deviate from the ultimate truth like the sky, in the play of the conventional truth like illusion, one should not abandon virtuous deeds either. Jowo Rinpoche said: Before conceptual thoughts cease, karma exists, one should believe in the ripening of karma. In short, these virtuous deeds with characteristics are all conventional truth. If one thinks that there is no benefit or harm, and does not do them, then one is killing the means with the understanding of emptiness, and it becomes practicing emptiness, which is not right. Also, even if one does virtuous deeds, one should not have the thought that one has completely completed the root of virtue, nor should one have the feeling that it has been interrupted, when awareness becomes like a vast expanse of space, as it is said in Dzogchen: Do not be attached to experience and realization, do not be attached to realization and experience. It is like abiding in the ultimate truth and accepting the conventional truth, one should understand by combining one's own high and low views.
