If one does not act for the benefit of others, And is not grasped by a mind of connection, Even with great diligence, one goes astray into the lesser vehicle. Therefore, on the two aspects of the mind of enlightenment, Know that the essence of Dharma abides. Even if one practices Dharma in solitude, If one becomes weak, one is criticized, If one accomplishes benefit for others, one is suppressed, Because there are many of this kind nowadays, Therefore, one must don the armor of enduring wrong practices, A strong spirit is truly necessary. Life is impermanent, like a guest, The mind is changeable, like a bird on a tree. Likewise, the distinctions of enemies, friends, and relatives, In this unreliable situation, Abandon the clinging to permanence and stability. When others show reverence and service, If there is fear of arising arrogance, And if there is a possibility of changing the intention to benefit others, Do not be too harsh or violent. However, an aging compassionate heart, Is an example of turning into hatred, Having examined it well, with the Dharma path, Do not abandon vows that are in accordance. That which is always unchanging is, The suchness of wisdom, When abiding in the nature of reality, No matter how one acts, there is no fear. From the age of six, I entered the gate of the Buddha's teachings. From the moment of entering, I had renunciation, And renunciation and compassion, but, But merging with wisdom and Dharma, Was not until the age of twenty-five. At the age of twenty-five, with the foundation, I knew a little about the way of establishing, but, Until the age of twenty-eight, Apart from the meditations of worldly people, I did not truly see this wisdom. Even at that time, the nature of mind, Knowing the change of abode and my liberation, but, But the reality that is greater than this is, Because there is no realization but it is co-existent, That is the obscuration of what is to be known, When it appears to be the greatest, I realized it after meeting the all-knowing one. Free from the reality of the object of meditation and the meditator, When eight kinds of realization arise, Hope and fear disappear without nature. Knowing the reality of all phenomena, I practiced without acceptance or rejection. Even if I am slandered, I am not afraid, Only the benefit of others arises in my mind. At that time, you and all of the, Disciples, ritual practitioners, and seekers of Dharma, Gathered from all three regions of Ü-Tsang and Kham, I acted only with the intention to benefit others. The comfortable and leisurely yogi I, Even if I die now, I have no regrets. Therefore, you faithful ones also, Follow in the footsteps of your father.

To Wang Jigme Kundrol and Rinchen Dorje Dengkhar, heart-disciples from the southern Bhutanese lineage, Jikme Lingpa offers these instructions. What is called "Sugata-garbha" is the view of non-fabrication and freedom from elaboration. When it becomes mixed with the habitual tendencies of mind and mental events, and with adventitious circumstances, it is called a sentient being wandering in samsara. Its true nature is introduced by the lama. Receiving empowerment and having the lineage blessed is like clarifying obscurations. Recognizing the nature of mind must be maintained with mindfulness, so if you remember the lama and mindfulness as inseparable in your heart, it is called devotion flourishing on the path. That clear and vivid devotion, without forgetting, that empty and clear state, does not need anything else. For a person who has diligence as a companion to that devotion, the lama's instructions, remembering and recalling them, will also come. When that happens, first, blessings enter through the faith of empowerment, and it becomes the cause of purifying definite obscurations. Even in difficult times such as at the time of death or in the bardo, remembering the lama, at that time, the saying "faith nourishes the elements" will be fulfilled in your being. At that time, compassion will arise uncontrollably for other sentient beings who have not realized the true nature, and for those who do not rely on holy beings, who do not know how to reverse cause and effect due to suffering. Through this, the accumulation of merit is quickly completed, and from within arises a fruit-like nature that is beyond thought, something that cannot be remembered. Remaining in that state, the qualities of the paths and bhumis become mere terms, and the lama's realization is transferred to the student, and the realization of no meditation and no meditator naturally arises, which is called the mingling of minds. This is a heartfelt talk. Instructions to dispel the darkness of the heart. The activity of all the Buddhas of the three times, unified in the wisdom of Padmakara. May you look with favor upon the land of Nagri (Bhutan). I pray to you with reverence. Please look upon your followers with compassion. May the deluded thoughts of the one named Norbu (Jewel), who possesses mindfulness and faith, be pacified. With intense love, compassion, and devotion, please listen to the advice of this renunciate. In the beginningless and endless ocean of samsara, the creator is ignorance and self-grasping. Grasping at self where there is no self, awareness is lost to external objects, and the body of karma
