Collected Questions and Answers on Generation and Completion Stage Meditation Methods and Instructions from the Scattered Writings of Longchen Namkhai Naljor. Collected Questions and Answers on Generation and Completion Stage Meditation Methods and Instructions from the Scattered Writings of Longchen Namkhai Naljor. Pages 499 to 600. Collected Questions and Answers on Generation and Completion Stage Meditation Methods and Instructions from the Scattered Writings of Longchen Namkhai Naljor are complete. Homage to the Primordial Buddha, Stainless Light (Dri med od zer). Regarding the meditation aspect, when mindfulness arises, without examination, contemplation, or thought, the aspiration remains in its place. Even if subtle thoughts arise fleetingly, they immediately vanish. Afterwards, the awareness flashes, and the very mindfulness that thinks it needs to separately seek emptiness manifests as unease. When ordinary awareness naturally arises as the path of meditation, and one thinks that one should remain in a slightly clear and empty state, the fault is that the essence of meditation is entrusted to this clinging. In that case, it is easier to meditate when thoughts do not arise. When thoughts arise, it seems that the need to examine whether the thoughts are liberated or not causes the mindfulness to become uneasy. The special characteristic of Dzogchen is that when mindfulness arises, it is sufficient to say "good" once, and then maintain the continuity of mindfulness. The very fact that ordinary awareness is not transformed or altered in any way by the mind is the view of self-originated purity. As the Omniscient Great One (Kunchen Chenpo) said: "All phenomena are the pacification of elaboration, and the absence of all commitments is also present in the Sutra system. However, is it possible in the Perfection of Wisdom that this present awareness, without changing its hair or altering its color, can achieve Buddhahood? Therefore, Secret Mantra is particularly superior due to the combination of skillful means and wisdom." As the quote from the Three Lights Commentary states, even from the perspective of wisdom, the difference between the elaboration-free state that is fabricated by the mind and the spontaneously accomplished elaboration-free state is like the difference between heaven and earth. Now, as soon as the thought arises that "it is necessary to open the door," maintain the continuity of the momentary virtuous awareness, and there will be no confusion or error. It is ignorance that wanders in samsara. Therefore, if mindfulness is recognized, ignorance is naturally liberated. In the state of mindfulness, no matter what kind of thoughts arise, this time in this way...

If someone intending to generate a thought merely grasps the single instance of awareness that arises, and then follows after the conceptual thought without any examination or analysis, not only will the conceptual thought not be self-liberated, but also, because the conceptual thought has not been transformed into the path, it is like drawing a picture on a stone. Its habitual tendencies become strong and lead us endlessly through samsara. Conceptual thoughts that are grasped by mindfulness are like drawing a picture on water; arising and dissolving occur simultaneously, so they will not become the basis for habitual tendencies and samsara in the future. Furthermore, in the general system of wisdom of the master Garab Dorje, it says: "At the time of arising, they arise equally, without good or bad. At the time of abiding, they abide equally, without good or bad. At the time of liberation, they are liberated equally, without good or bad." Moreover, the self-emptiness and other-emptiness of other religious terms, as well as the negation of emptiness, non-affirming negation, union, co-emergent, and all-supreme, etc., these profound views and meditations, with the self-clinging partiality of fabricated minds, are patching up the unspeakable, unthinkable, and inexpressible with the obscuration of knowledge. This is also explained in the common sutras: "Bhagavan, if an arhat thinks, 'I have attained the state of arhat,' then he will cling to that 'I,' cling to sentient beings, cling to life, and cling to individuals." It is like that. Therefore, the unchanging nature of the sugatagarbha, which is not defiled by the five aggregates and the eight consciousnesses, is that the yogis who are free from elaboration dwell in secluded places, and the awareness that is pure from the beginning must be transformed into awareness, without changing it in the slightest. It is enough to maintain the continuity of mindfulness alone. The reason for this is also clearly stated in the Bhadrakalpika Sutra: "Seeing no self-nature is meditation; seeing no birth is wisdom." In this state, the way to transform conceptual thoughts into the path is as explained above. In the Treasury of Reality, it says: "When the five external objects appear as many and various, whatever thoughts arise internally, recognize that they are appearing in the external objects at that time. The power of arising is complete. Remaining in that state, they naturally dissolve without a trace. Whatever arises, leave it as it is. Do not be distracted, do not change it, and the appearance that arises
