Therefore, regarding the conceptual thought of whether the subsequent thought follows the previous thought or not, like a water hole beneath a bamboo tube, restore it to its original state, and try to maintain yourself in a state where the one who generates the subsequent thought knows and is aware of it. In this way, the previous thought will naturally be liberated. On this, Shingten Chenmo (a great master) cited the examples of throwing a stone at a lion and throwing a stone at a dog, which is very appropriate. Why? If you throw a stone at a lion, the lion will leave the stone aside and jump at the thrower, so it will never be hit by a stone again. If you throw a stone at a dog, the dog will leave the thrower aside and chase after the stone, so it will still be hit by countless stones. Looking at conceptual thought and looking at the one who generates conceptual thought are like looking outward and looking inward, there is such a difference. It is also true that some people say they do not understand how to directly apply the appearances of the six consciousnesses. Therefore, the six consciousnesses refer to the six, including the five sense consciousnesses and the mind consciousness. For example, when the ear consciousness clearly hears a sound, without doing any analysis or thinking about the sound, it is said to directly take the sound to the state of innate awareness that obtains the sound, rather than to conceptual thought. The same applies to other sense consciousnesses. This can be understood by analyzing the meaning of phrases such as "Thus appearing to the eye" in the Seventy Verses. Now, someone might think, since there are six consciousnesses, does that mean there are six consciousnesses? That is not the case. The single Alaya consciousness, because the wind flows in the channels of each sense organ, the mind acts like riding a horse, performing activities such as hearing. For example, if you put a monkey in a house with five holes, and the monkey sticks its head out of each hole, it may seem like there are many monkeys, but in reality, you don't need five monkeys. Or, if you light a big lamp in that house, flames will appear in each of the five holes, but that doesn't require five lamps. This should be understood through these examples. Therefore, it should be understood that consciousness is singular, and this is just its illusion. Having done this, if you leave it as it is without any modification, then the six consciousnesses will naturally relax, or in other words, when you directly apply consciousness, there are no six consciousnesses. If you analyze this reason, you will understand that those who consider themselves to have high views and meditation have actually achieved nothing. Wāgīndradharmakīrti (Lion-wise Dharma Fame).

These are the instructions of Lhalungpa. The great master Orgyen said, "One year of retreat is better, one month of silence is supreme." Generally, the blessing of speech, and understanding sound as the sound of emptiness mantras, etc., are vast paths of Secret Mantra. However, for beginners, if they think that's how it is and elaborate on it, because there is no certainty in understanding the self-existing sound-emptiness mantra as an uncorrected state when reaching the state of complete exhaustion of illusion. Because being obscured by human language can rob the power of mantras, etc., it is necessary to draw a boundary that creates many obstacles. This passage was offered as a response to Tsorul Rinpoche's "I, Mantra," which stated, "It seems that one does not need to be silent in order to understand the mantra." Usually, contrived virtuous actions are interrupted when there is no contrivance,
