Having subtle thoughts is a fault in practice. At that time, the eyes should gaze into space, and exhale the breath. The present moment of awareness should be maintained slightly. Or, thinking that there are no dull, numb thoughts, no stains of memory, is the fault of thoughts not arising in meditation, and the separation of abiding and moving. At that time, if the thought arises, "Such thoughts are arising," that thought itself is the thought, so do not follow any arising thoughts, but tightly grasp the nature of the moment the thought arises, and relax without grasping. In reality, no matter what thoughts arise before, put all your effort into practicing this present moment of awareness that is full of alertness. Do not regard thoughts as faults, nor regard abiding as a virtue, but if abiding, let the nature of abiding be in an inexpressible state. If moving, let the moving be in a naked state of recognizing its own nature. Although the thoughts of direct transcendence are the special wealth of Dzogchen, do not develop attachment to joy and the thigle lineage, but like the object of meditation, maintain the state of non-duality between seeing and what is seen. No matter how good or bad dreams arise, transform them into non-acceptance or rejection. At all times, be disgusted with samsara. Have strong compassion for sentient beings. Have strong devotion to the Guru, and do not separate. Up to now, you have recited about one hundred thousand mantras of Guru Yoga, which is very good. After completing one hundred thousand recitations, you can send a practice report. Because samsara is an ocean of suffering, and there is no opportunity for happiness, it is more meritorious to practice retreat in the Guru's practice place than to welcome guests, so practice joy and make leisure and opportunity meaningful. This is for Padma Chodron Send the heart essence of meditation. As it is said, there is nothing better than uncorrected awareness. If thoughts arise because awareness is moved by the wind, then at the moment of arising, if it disappears without being recognized, that is sufficient. In general, if you do not rejoice in abiding and do not grieve in non-abiding, you will not make a mistake. On the basis of awareness being in its natural state, if all abiding and moving do not fall into confusion and non-attention, but are like it recognizing itself, that is sufficient, and this needs to be distinguished from examining abiding and moving with conceptual thoughts. This is for Jangtse Mani Bhadra Recitation and practice.

Regarding the question of "how": During recitation, meditate by focusing the mind on the deity itself and relaxing awareness. Initially, the clarity of the deity's appearance may last for a while, but eventually, even with efforts to clarify the appearance, one tends to prefer a state of non-clarity. Generally, regarding the generation stage, past vidyadharas have said, "Knowing the appearance of external objects as unreal is the illusory generation stage; the spontaneous arising of emptiness is the profound generation stage; the deity with face and hands is the emanation generation stage." Therefore, if one has realized the expanse of reality, one does not need to rely on the generation stage fabricated by conceptual thought. Instead, in the naturally arising, uncompounded generation stage, the self-arisen, spontaneously perfect state, one has mastery over the four activities and vast qualities. However, if we are beginners, we should meditate on the clarity of emptiness-wisdom, with the deity appearing clearly as a means, and abide in it for as long as possible. If it does not appear clearly, then alternately remember the symbolic meaning and purity of the deity, and abide in pride. By meditating in this way, one can perfect the five powers—wavering, attainment, habituation, stability, and ultimate completion—and thus be able to arise as the deity of complete recollection. Furthermore, do not expect to succeed by forcing it in one or two days or one or two months. For it is said in the tantras and great commentaries that when one's mind matures into the deity, one attains the vidyadhara of maturation. Now, some people try to make the generation stage fixed and unchanging, which is not true at all. When it appears, coarse conceptual thoughts will cease; in between, cultivate devotion to the deity; when devotion becomes stable, one will attain self-mastery; finally, meditate on the blessings of the deity, and through the power of blessings, transform other appearances, and self-knowing awareness will meet with reality. As it is said, now for the essence of the meaning, in the lower yogas, although many methods are taught for pacifying the mind through objects of focus and so on, we are the view of Great Perfection, which is a source with the power to sweep away. Therefore, strive to meditate on the clarity of that inexpressible, mind-transcending view, so that it can appear as the deity. If you become tired from this, as said before, focus your mind on pride, remain relaxed, and do not let the downward-flowing thoughts scatter. Doing just that is sufficient. Also, some say they do not recognize the downward-flowing thoughts, which is certainly true. Recognizing the downward-flowing thoughts requires the perfection of the power of vipassanā (insight).
