The difference in views is very great, as it says in the 'Self-Arisen': The pinnacle of all views is said to be Ati Dzogchen. Like this, one cannot see this meaning through the clarity and obscuration of the abiding place, or through the continuity of appearance-emptiness and bliss-clarity, or through abiding in non-conceptuality. Therefore, in order to distinguish it from these, the pure awareness and the absence of a target for the clinging of mental discernment are distinguished, and so it is taught. As it says in the 'Guhyasamaja Tantra': Therefore, it is the peak of the peaks. This illustrates it. Second, the introduction to one's own wisdom: Wisdom, practice, and liberation are three different things, each divided by seven groups, relying on twenty-one faculties to introduce them, and three groups of seven also appear. As it says in the 'Vajrasattva Heart Mirror': Awareness is fundamentally transcendent. In order to recognize entering the path, one must know twenty-one introductions, including the introduction of examples and meanings. Similarly, it is also explained in detail in 'Introduction Adornment,' but here it is only this much. If that is the case, if it is the Dzogchen tenet that does not rely on terms and symbols, then will these become clinging to mental discernment? Although true awareness, the great Kadag, has no symbols of example and reasoning, the spontaneously present five lights that transcend the ground have the doors of samsara and nirvana. Therefore, in order to establish the path appearance, even though the inner realm has already been directly seen, it is represented by the symbols of crystal and the outward manifestation of self-light, in the manner of arising from the essence and the way appearances dissolve. Because this introduction of examples is easy to attain in the minds of ordinary beings, it is only intended as an aid to all the direct paths of Tögal and the manifestations of purification in the bardo of dharmata, and not as an aim for the introduction of awareness, as it says in 'Norbu Trakö': Alas! Son of noble family, after I have completely passed into nirvana, in the time of the five degenerations, there will come a time when those with the attitude of deceiving children will believe in the Buddha's intention in examples. At that time, this secret lineage of one's own will arise. True awareness itself cannot be symbolized by examples. Because the five lights of self-nature are inherent, showing the five lights of images also does not lead to Buddhahood.

Transform! Thus it is said. Although one may have obtained a thorough introduction to awareness, those with insufficient accumulation cannot directly penetrate its nature. Although this is so, if the adventitious condition of self-grasping does not subside into the expanse of the pure dharmadhatu, the accumulations of realization that are deluded by adventitious conditions, by the possessor of ordinary self-nature, in order to obscure those with initial karma, from the two ways of guiding, the samatha and vipassana being of one essence, and being separate, from the first aspect, there is the great abiding meditation, and the wisdom of clarity, the union of samatha and vipassana, to place the meaning of non-duality, free from extremes. Thus it is taught. Regarding this, any adventitious mind of the eight consciousnesses that is connected with self-grasping, which is in accordance with the dharmadhatu, cannot be reversed into the nature of awareness, for those, the common and consistent way to accomplish mind-abiding is, in the way that is not prohibited from here, in the refutation treatise it says: "What is called meditation is mind-abiding, cutting off the inner and outer movements, the apprehended and the apprehender cease." And, "The channels, winds, and bindus, the essential points of the body, the object of focus, and emptiness, what is called meditation is desire." It means that mind-abiding is based on the object of focus, the necessity is, hoping for the result from stability, the action is, cultivating in connection with samatha and vipassana, the desire to stop the apprehended and the apprehender. Thus, in the Six Spaces it is also said: "For the inexpressible nature of mind, samatha and vipassana arise naturally, after abiding and equality, it is perfected as unwavering meditation." Therefore, if the awareness that is established on the basis of the view is not directly recognized, and if one does not know how to integrate the three times into equality in its state, then, merely obtaining a slight introduction to the Great Perfection, and occasionally, regarding the Dharma of leisure and opportunity as a transformation that transcends acceptance and rejection, adoption and abandonment, it is not beneficial at the time of death and in the bardo, and because the root of perpetually wandering in samsara is not severed, so in the way of learning the suchness of meditation, in the refutation treatise it says: "The fault of not meditating is, the characteristics of samsara manifest, self and other, object-consciousness, and the view with words, and the objects with focus, the afflictions bind the self, the Buddha's path is also lost, and not understanding the nature of the result, the Dharma"
