Clinging to objects is the mind, therefore it is the nature of samsara. Thus it is said. By the function of mind and wisdom, the gates of movement are also closed, and wisdom is free from the object of memory. Thus it is said. Moreover, since the mind is conditioned, it gathers collections of habits and afflictions. In the Rangshar it says: The mind is that which gathers all habits, the mind is that which arouses all habits, the mind is that which accumulates all afflictions, the mind is the basis of all habits, and since those habits are difficult to stop, they obscure one's own appearance and exist together with ignorance. Thus it is said. In the Garland of Pearls it says: Since the mind is the cause of arising from accumulation, and is also mixed with impurities, the mind that gathers everything, etc., is counted by impurities. Thus it is said. Wisdom is not accumulated together with the mind, but is like a fire that burns the firewood of conceptual thought. As it says in that very text: Burning all conceptual thoughts, wisdom itself consumes like fire, it is equal to the sky itself, it is the nature of empty clarity and awareness. Thus it is said. The Entering also says that the cessation of mind is manifested directly by the body. Thus it is said. In short, the only obscuration to wisdom is the mind, therefore, as long as it exists in one's own continuum, it is called a sentient being. Since the mind is related to the five aggregates, all the virtues gathered by it are the path of ordinary beings, and therefore it is the nature of creating samsara. If it is said that wisdom without mind cannot be realized, then even on the high path of the noble ones, one cannot abandon holding cause and effect as liberation, so let it be true according to your own system that each individual's self-awareness is made the object of the mind. Why is it true that the way in which the intention of this king of vehicles is shown to be different from other dharmas does not enter the realm of thought? In Nectar Relishing it says: In the mandala of the three supreme places, when dwelling spontaneously without duality, at that time the Shravaka Sangha and the Pratyekabuddha, the Mahayana Sutra Pitaka, and the Bodhisattva Sangha, and even the name Arhat are not there, in the mandala of the mind of Samantabhadra, the meaning of all intentions is completely clear. Thus it is said. Here, since that itself is not the object of the mind, when the manifest result is made the path, mind and wisdom are like the sun and darkness.
