Thus it is proclaimed. Firstly, briefly explain the tenets of how the basis abides: Primordial purity, spontaneous presence, indeterminate, determinate reality, Whatever can be transformed, and whatever can be vowed, The basis of various desires, all seven, The essence is the single primordial purity, Each aspect is separately designated, Holding to one's own tenets, others are like seven blind men touching an elephant, Like describing the color of a swan. Among these, the Great Perfection system explains seven ways of viewing the basis: considering the basis as primordial purity, considering the basis as spontaneous presence, considering the basis as indeterminate, considering the basis as the reality of determinate meaning, considering the basis as whatever can be transformed, considering the basis as whatever can be vowed, and considering the basis as various, these are the seven. Thus, these seven are also designated on the single awareness of the essence of primordial purity, based on each of their respective tenets. As it says in the Sixth Space: The basis of accomplishment that first descends, Exists as one, there is no other, From the aspects of confused appearance, Those who realize have determined, It appears as seven levels, The appearance of seven levels, Is the appearance of the essence of one, Because one is not known, it appears thus, However, the meaning of that is like this: When spontaneously present, it abides, Various gatherings appear as essence, When abiding without determination, Moving mind appears in various ways, When abiding as determinate self-nature, Memory appears without change, When abiding as transformable, Diligent mind appears as aspect, When abiding as any entity, Whatever appears, appears as self-nature, When abiding in variegation, Various individual ways, When abiding as pure from the beginning, Originally without stain appears, All of these are levels of mind, Self-nature is pure from the beginning. Thus it is said. Among these, firstly, considering the basis as primordial purity is unreasonable. Because the nature of primordial purity is the great essence that is free from elaboration, it does not possess ignorance, therefore it is impossible for the confusion of samsara to arise from it, because the basis itself cannot become the cause of the lineage of ignorance. If it is said that ignorance is a sudden stain, so it can arise, then, because there is pervasion that when the cause is blocked, the result is also blocked, so sudden stains are not accepted, because the self-nature of the Sugata-garbha is stainless. Thus it is said.

Furthermore, it is stated in the "Six Spaces of the Void" that, "Since the essence is primordially pure, the cycle of sentient beings is illogical, for the defilement of ignorance is primordially exhausted." This is how it is taught. The earlier lamas held the view of primordial purity, while Lhaje Zur Chungpa held the view of spontaneous accomplishment. Therefore, various explanations exist in the old texts, but the instructions of the fully examined and authoritative "Supreme Vehicle Treasure" are reliable. Secondly, it is also unreasonable to consider the ground as spontaneously accomplished. If it were spontaneously accomplished, it would be unchanging like the color of coal. Therefore, there would be no cause for the separation of samsara and nirvana. Even if it were samsara, since ignorance is established on the ground, it would constantly transmigrate and could not be liberated. Even if it were nirvana, since it is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning, it would not depend on the conditions of the two accumulations, such as recognizing one's own nature. As it is said in the "Six Spaces of the Void": "That ground of various spontaneous accomplishments is not the true ground. If it were, then it would be like this: These sentient beings, through effort, would not be liberated, because they are defiled by ignorance. If you say that liberation comes from having knowledge, then would the result also not be liberation? For example, black coal cannot be turned into white color by cleaning. Because the cause and result are different, it is not spontaneously accomplished. Likewise, if the cause and result are the same, then all efforts would be meaningless. Therefore, is the ground called spontaneous accomplishment meaningful or not? Kuntuzangpo (Skt. Samantabhadra) spoke to me, the Teacher spoke to the great-hearted one, 'As is your understanding, this is merely an object of knowledge, not the true essence.'" So it is said. Thirdly, it is also unreasonable to consider the ground as indeterminate. If the indeterminate ground is the ground from which samsara and nirvana arise, then it would follow that after being purified, it would revert to being impure, or that even the impure would become the nature of purity, because it has no fixed nature and can become anything. If this were the case, then due to some chance, sentient beings would be liberated effortlessly, and Buddhas would fall into samsara and experience suffering, thus the nature of samsara and nirvana would be confused. As it is said in the "Six Spaces of the Void": "The ground that is said to be indeterminate, this also cannot be the nature of the ground. This is how I understand the sequence of wisdom. Is the result alternating? Or"
