When some dissolve, all subtle and gross appearances cease, and the luminous body, complete with all faculties, becomes like a body and its shadow. At this time, in the moment of fragmented light appearances, the wise should seize the arising appearances. Through the arising of the moving winds, the light and rays of five colors each, appear as uncertain rainbow patterns. Thus it is said. Furthermore, when awareness emerges from the eyes and appears in the sky, the five wisdom winds in the expanse of awareness arise, from which come the five lights. When one sees the appearance of the body connected to the rays like threads, if one believes in the arising appearances that are liberated from being bound by the alaya-consciousness, without wavering, then in the first instant one recognizes, in the second instant one is liberated upon recognition, and in the third instant, upon liberation, one dissolves into primordial purity, after which there are no more appearances. If one does not secure a firm foundation in this, it is called dissolving into the wisdom of union, where a very fine thread of light shoots out from one's heart into the sky above, from which arises the appearance of the union of four wisdoms, like blue, white, yellow, and red cloths, the four appearing as light only within the scope of sensory experience. Above that, the essence of each wisdom corresponding to the colors, appears as five light bindus, four mirror-like spots each adorned with five mustard seed-sized self-powers, like a mandala with bouquets placed upon it, and above that rotates a halo of light resembling a peacock feather umbrella, which is the dharmadhatu appearance of the five wisdoms, these are the seeds for the spontaneous arising. Furthermore, combined with not having been liberated into primordial purity, it is established as the union of four wisdoms, while the wisdom of accomplished action, because its power is not yet complete, does not manifest its own essence, but because it possesses the power of a seed, it abides in the pervasiveness of the alaya-consciousness. For these appearances, there are also instructions for recognizing one's own ground, for example, when draining heart-water, the tube remains straight and does not move even a hair's breadth, by which it is exemplified that awareness is free from conditions, thereby liberated from the arising of the aggregates, awareness is stainless, thereby afflictions are liberated into dharmata, awareness does not fall into any extreme, thereby liberated from outer and inner dharmas, abiding in the dharmata that does not waver from the key point of one's own essence. If one does not grasp that state, there are six appearances of dissolving into spontaneously accomplished wisdom, namely: the manner of appearance, recollection, clairvoyance, retention, samadhi, and the manner of dissolving into spontaneous accomplishment. The first is, from the union of the sun and moon, then one's own awareness.

When my light merges, experience the eight ways of appearing. At that time, the wrathful appearances of the Sambhogakaya below will also be seen. What are the eight ways of appearing? Appearing like compassion, the boundary between samsara and nirvana is not cut off. Appearing like light, all appearances are clear within. Appearing like the body, the door of knowledge does not open outward. Appearing like wisdom, all appearances are empty and clear. Appearing like non-duality, one's own awareness abides in one point. Appearing like the exhaustion of extremes, it does not abide in any extreme. Appearing like the impure door of samsara, the source of existence does not cease. Appearing like the pure door of wisdom, the dharmata is connected like mother and child. At that time, one should remember the supreme means like the great arrow of non-returning. Thus it is said. Moreover, the great arrow, like that which does not return due to its great force, although appearing in eight ways of appearing, has only one place of convergence. Gathering the doors of appearance of the ground appearance into the part of the pure inner space is the most important key point. To this, becoming familiar with Tögal from now on, and the power of habituation that does not move from the space, is also the key point of the previous instructions. The second is, from the union of the sun and moon, at that time six recollections will also arise, namely, recollecting the deity, seeing the face of the yidam deity at that very moment; recollecting the stages of the path, mastering the dharmata of the bardo; recollecting the place of birth, breathing the last senses into the pure land of the Nirmanakaya; recollecting the samadhi, abiding in samadhi for five days; recollecting the guru's instructions, practicing inseparably from one's own appearances; recollecting the view, like recognizing someone previously familiar as soon as they are encountered. Thus it is said. The third is, the six direct perceptions of the senses. The six direct perceptions of mind that are workable. The six direct perceptions of wisdom. The six direct perceptions of the pure vision of wisdom. The six direct perceptions of seeing the dharmata without error. The six direct perceptions of seeing the Buddha's wisdom without error. That is, the first group of six has sixty-eight, the second and third groups each have twenty-four, and the remaining three groups each have six. If divided into parts, then the one hundred and thirty-four are also divided into contaminated, uncontaminated, and extremely uncontaminated, depending on the object of observation and the dharmata.
