You are the unparalleled victor! Therefore, relying on meaning, the collection of six consciousnesses is free and unmoving. Not following appearances, just as the reflections of stars appear on a sea undisturbed by waves, by abiding in selflessness, all the qualities of ground, path, and fruition are attained. As the Kunjed Gyalpo says: The beginning, end, and middle are all peaceful, existence and nirvana are peaceful, the spontaneously accomplished great bliss, the incomparable wisdom, from awareness by its own power, dharma does not arise from elsewhere, it does not change. Like that. If it is not grasped by the special wisdom of insight, then mere calm abiding is like the latent self-grasping that is similar to the alaya, unable to eradicate the faults of samsara from the root, and will not fall into the lower realms, therefore it is called the self-nature of immovable karma, merely projecting the mind into the formless samadhi that corresponds to either of the two upper realms, there is no other meaning. Therefore, in order to know the pitfalls therein, the characteristics of each mind are explained separately. In general, the meditation of the noble ones can obtain the mind of great fruit simultaneously. However, ordinary people only tend to the bliss of calm abiding, in a state of emptiness like the sky, the function of the mind disappears, thereby projecting the mind to the peak of existence of the realm in which they will be born. The noble ones, however, regard all dharmas as without self and self-belonging, with the wisdom of insight as the characteristic of their own self-awareness, although they possess the qualities of samadhi of the formless meditations, because the self-nature of these minds does not abide, they do not cling to birth in the upper realms, even if they obtain the non-great mind, they can attain higher and higher wisdom of the path of seeing and the path of cultivation up to the peak of existence, thereby liberating from samsara. As the Middle Length Prajnaparamita Sutra says: One should gradually engage in the nine successive absorptions. Thus it is taught. If classified, the nine successive absorptions are the four dhyanas, the four formless absorptions, and the cessation with mind, making nine. Among them, first, the mind of the four dhyanas has two, the preparatory stage and the actual stage. The preparatory stage is the practice of contemplation, the actual stage is merely that. Thus, the actual stage of the former dhyana becomes the preparatory stage of the latter dhyana, this way in the Middle Length Prajnaparamita Sutra...

Sa. The first dhyana is with vitarka and vicara. The second dhyana is without vitarka but only with vicara. The third dhyana is the mental activity without both vitarka and vicara. The fourth dhyana is the mental activity of gathering joy. As it is taught, the first dhyana is the wisdom with vitarka that makes the mind abide in equanimity. Moreover, it is the clear and empty state of abiding without thinking of anything. From the practice with mindfulness and vicara, the actual practice of non-discrimination arises. The post-meditation and intermediate periods are with vitarka and vicara. From that clear part, the eye that sees the other side and the supernormal knowledge that knows the past and future states also arise. From being accustomed to such a small dhyana, one is born in the Brahma-parisadya heaven. From being accustomed to a medium dhyana, one is born in the Brahma-purohita heaven. From being accustomed to a large dhyana, one is born in the Maha-brahma heaven. The second dhyana is the preparatory stage where the actual practice of the first mind is stable, without vitarka but only with vicara is the practice. What is that? Even though there is no subtle recollection and discrimination of knowing clarity and emptiness from anything, the state of clarity and non-discrimination arises with the experience of grasping that mind of one's own, which is the actual practice. From being accustomed to that small dhyana, one is born in the Parittabha heaven. From being accustomed to a medium dhyana, one is born in the Apramanabha heaven. From being accustomed to a large dhyana, one is born in the Abhasvara heaven. The third dhyana is the preparatory stage where the actual practice of the second mind is stable, the actual practice of a special non-discrimination without any vitarka or vicara arises. From being accustomed to that small dhyana, one is born in the Parittasubha heaven. From being accustomed to a medium dhyana, one is born in the Apramanasubha heaven. From being accustomed to a large dhyana, one is born in the Subhakrtsna heaven. The fourth dhyana has three states of ordinary beings and five of noble ones. Among them, the state of ordinary beings is that from the preparatory stage where the actual practice of the third mind is stable, a joy and bliss that is clearer, brighter, and more non-discriminating than before arises, which is the actual practice of the fourth dhyana. From being accustomed to that small dhyana, one is born in the Anabhraka heaven. From being accustomed to a medium dhyana, one is born in the Punyaprasava heaven. From being accustomed to a large dhyana, one is born in the Brhatphala heaven. Thus, if the nature of joy and bliss of the dhyana of great fruit is mistaken for mere shamatha, the clarity of both discrimination and non-discrimination will be cut off, and one will be thrown into the formless realm. Although it appears, if the vipasyana that does not grasp that as its own nature is seized by non-discrimination, one will be born in the other pure abode heavens of the noble ones.
