Therefore, awareness is practiced as the path, to become accustomed to the way things are. Like this, direct awareness is free from all elaborations, and is already enlightened from the beginning, like the nature of the sun without brightness or dimness. But in the eight stages taught as remedies for the dull-witted, there is a difference like wanting to see the sun first from the causes and conditions of purifying defilements with defilements, relying on the mind path mixed with the appropriation of the eight aggregates, and the generation and completion stages with characteristics. Therefore, one should repeatedly contemplate that the naturally arising wisdom is not mixed with the errors of view, meditation, conduct, and result of other-arising conceptual thoughts. As it says in the *All-Creating King*: "The nature of the one dharma, the mind of enlightenment, with three samadhis and five rituals, on the self-continuum's pure vajra body, having meditated on the deity of four kinds of approach and accomplishment, making appearances without inherent existence, searching and accomplishing, transforming one's own mind into a deity, but even then one does not see one's own mind as unmade. The teacher who teaches the King of All-Creating also teaches that one's own nature, the mind of enlightenment, is liberated from the beginning, and does not give instructions to meditate on the three teachers. If you search for meditation and accomplishment, you are abandoning your own mind. Alas! Great bodhisattvas, if you wish to accomplish your own mind, because it is accomplished by non-desire, do not abide in non-conceptual equanimity, abide naturally in the realm without acceptance or rejection, abide naturally in the state without movement. The mind is the nature of suchness, all dharmas are accomplished as suchness. Do not fabricate suchness, do not accomplish anything other than the nature of reality. If you search, the Victorious Ones will not find it in the expanse. Because it was done before, there is no need to do it now; because it was accomplished before, there is no need to accomplish it now." Thus, when meditating, some mistaken views and meditations that have entered one's own school say that whatever conceptual thought arises is the self-born wisdom. This is actually not recognizing the nature of awareness, and all skills and games are scattered in the direction of arising. Because conceptual thought is other-arising from habit, it is the way of following after objects. Because it can be broken and destroyed from appearing as an object, it is grasped as form. Feeling craves and experiences the nature of this and that.

contemplate various aspects. Actions cause the continuous stream of contaminated mind. Consciousness, which takes objects as its domain, veils the self-born wisdom, and even if one thinks that one is abiding without being distracted from the continuous stream of memory of the mind and mental factors, the mind of the mind is still accompanied by conceptualization, so there is not even a slight transcendence of the nature of samsara, as it is said in the Kunje Gyalpo Tantra: "Self-born wisdom is known from the beginning, but the wisdom that conceptualizes objects is not self-born because it arises from objects." So, what is self-born wisdom? It is the emptiness of one's own awareness. It is the freedom from elaboration that is not lost to the nature of what is to be known. It is the self-liberation that does not grasp the union of clarity and emptiness. It is the natural meditation that does not fall into spontaneous freedom. It is the peaceful abiding that does not depend on the place and the one who abides. It is the superior seeing that does not judge objects with consciousness. It is the samadhi that does not waver from its own original purity. It is the spontaneous accomplishment of the after-attainment that is without cessation. It is the original liberation that is not mixed with the alaya. It is the awareness that is not suddenly bound because it is not mixed with consciousness. It is freedom. It is unconditioned. It does not need to be transformed. It does not need to be cultivated. It does not need to be distracted. It does not need to be confused. It is inconceivable. It is not praised by view, meditation, and fruition. It is not served by conceptualization. Its nobility is not demeaned by inferiority. It is clear and transparent. It is naked in emptiness. It is relaxed in original purity, and merely abiding in that state is called a great state, but in reality, even those are unknowable as to whether they exist or not in their own nature. As it is said in the Mother of Wisdom Sutra: "Subhuti, all phenomena are merely names that are given. Whatever is a name that is given is temporary, and its nature is emptiness." Therefore, all the truths of the path of learning are accompanied by the obscurations of what is to be known, and the reality of no self-nature is not something that can be expressed in words. As it is said in the Self-Arisen: "When awareness is free from elaboration, how can there be confusion and ignorance? When wisdom is free from mind, how can there be habitual tendencies and stains?" And it is said: "From the nature of the unceasing awareness, the vast expanse of Samantabhadra appears. It means the expanse of great wisdom, which is free from conceptualization and beyond words and thoughts. It is like the magical display of the sky." The reason is that if stones and bones do not agree on awareness, then one should not think of anything, and taking the example of an egg, clinging to the view of the silent and unthinking Hwashang is a slander of the Mother of the Buddhas.
