And, in the way of summarizing through the definite expressions of chapters and so on, in the decisiveness, from the Great Perfection of Self-Nature: The distinctions of words spread out, from the three sections it transforms into nine realms. From the summary of words comes the shloka. From sixty-four hundred thousand shlokas, there are thirty-five thousand chapters, twenty-one thousand sections, the content expressed is equal to the edge of the sky, cutting off the conceptual thoughts of the beings to be tamed. From this, the content expressed is briefly summarized into one hundred and eighty nails, two thousand five hundred obstacles, three thousand important gatherings, forty thousand delusive obscurations, twenty thousand name lineages. The order of word expression is clearly elucidated. Thus it is said. Now, what is particularly outstanding from these is that the view, meditation, conduct, and fruition of all the systems of the Upadesha section are thoroughly determined at the moment of grasping liberation, namely: Everything is the Bodhicitta without a basis for liberation, the self-luminous awareness that abandons what liberates, manifests in the realm without four and without root. Because it is unmade and uncorrected, it is primordially liberated. One's own self-liberation does not depend on any conditions, because it is immediate liberation, therefore it is separated from all dependencies. It is liberated from the extremes of one and many. This has two points: measuring the overall Dharmadhatu of the meaning of having no basis for liberation, and separately analyzing the individual reasonableness. The first point is: Thus, the nature of Dharmata is existent, but invisible; it is non-existent, but it is not interrupted; it does not fall into either of the two sides, and there is no clinging to the Middle Way. Therefore, for anything that transcends beginning, end, birth, death, going, coming, the three times, edge, center, effort, and accomplishment, there is no basis for liberation. Like ripples in water, because it is self-liberation by itself; the conditions for liberation do not intervene, because Dharmata is universally present; because there is no basis and no root, in the realm beyond speech, thought, and expression, it exists simultaneously with self-luminous, manifest vipashyana, the aggregates of afflictions and conceptual thoughts have never existed from the beginning, nor have they not existed, abandoning does not abandon, practicing does not purify, transforming does not change, liberation does not liberate. If one does not realize this, then all the dualistic dharmas of what should be abandoned and the abandoner, etc., are the same entity, therefore they cannot become both purity and liberation. If purity and liberation are divided into two like this, if this is done by wisdom, then the mind cannot see wisdom, and wisdom cannot see the mind.

If we say that something is discarded, it is not appropriate to use that term for things that cannot coexist. Similarly, the past and the future are mutually exclusive, but the latter does not discard the former, because when one exists, the other ceases. If they exist simultaneously, then the order of before and after becomes confused, and what can be discarded becomes the antidote, and the antidote becomes what can be discarded, because the continuum of consciousness is simultaneous. As it says in the 'Union of Sun and Moon Sutra': 'If you do not realize suchness, it is like the body and shadow of a yogi. From that, that itself arises naturally, so discarding is not the discarder. Similarly, it is not through purification, nor through transformation. If you do not realize the unchanging essence, like a crystal rock or turquoise, it cannot be purified or melted. In the naturally pure state, it is observed by those who possess yoga. Similarly, it is not stillness itself. If you do not understand direct insight, like Mount Meru, the king of mountains, no one can destroy it. It is not liberated by antidotes. If you do not know self-purification without searching, like muddy water wanting to be cleared, it is impossible to clear it outwardly. Even if it is cleared, it is not the nature of reality. If you do not understand the relaxation of self-appearance, like the appearance of ordinary fools, you cannot reverse clinging.' Thus it is said. Among these, according to the way individuals enter the levels of mind, there are two types of self-liberation: with effort and without effort. The first is that from the state of immovability in the nature of reality, whatever collection of afflictions and conceptual thoughts arises, it is recognized by the superior seeing of knowing its own nature, and it does not waver from its nature. It is not bound by antidotes, nor does it follow after them, and it is placed in that state, because it is not established in that way on the basis of awareness, so just as water flows clearly when it is not turbid, there is no miraculous nature, it is pure. Effortless is that the place of arising and the one who arises are of one taste, so dharma-nature and conceptual thought, essence and display of activity, are not established as two, they arise and liberate themselves, so whatever arises cannot stand. As the former said: 'These are two levels of mind, those with effort and those without effort. Those with effort remain in their own place, for all the measures of habitual appearance, it is the appearance of pure wisdom. When everything arises inwardly and outwardly, it is not born from conditions. Whenever they arise, they are liberated in their own nature. Therefore, it is the appearance of yoga. Those without effort are like this.'
