Wasn't it said that? The teaching that liberation comes from abandoning desire, hatred, and ignorance is for the arrogant. For those who are without self, the very nature of desire, hatred, and ignorance is liberation. Just as a lotus does not grow from cold in winter, but from water and mud. Similarly, the unsurpassed, complete enlightenment does not arise in those who have abandoned afflictions and seen the unconditioned, such as the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Rather, after generating a view of the perishable aggregates like Mount Meru, one will generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Therefore, afflictions are the lineage of the Tathagatas. This is what the noble Vimalakirti taught. In particular, in the tantric teachings, it is said that by the truth of directly realizing Suchness, afflictions do not appear as having self-nature, and therefore are naturally pure and cannot be abandoned. Furthermore, the five afflictions themselves are the lineage, nature, and activity of the five Buddha families, so it has been repeatedly taught that there is no attainment by abandoning afflictions. The second point is that, for example, with regard to desire, although it abides in the nature of clinging to and being particularly attached to the five aggregates of appropriation, without relying on it, one cannot accumulate the accumulation of merit by giving. Similarly, one cannot create a great accumulation through discipline and patience, because it is said in the Mahayana scriptures: Without desire, there is no arising of the view of the perishable aggregates. Without clinging to self and what belongs to self, courage does not arise. Therefore, for those who have a view of the perishable aggregates like Mount Meru, courage like Mount Meru will arise. Those who generate courage like Mount Meru will be able to generate the mind to liberate, save, comfort, and completely pacify all sentient beings as boundless as the expanse of the sky, all by themselves. Furthermore, when Bodhisattvas accomplish their bodies through aspiration in all existences and work for the benefit of all sentient beings, if they are not moistened by the moisture of afflictions, there is no way to manifest and accomplish the sprout of existence, therefore it should not be abandoned.

Those who have entered the Mahayana should regard afflictions as parents and spiritual friends. Moreover, the way to enter the practice of the six perfections based on this is: What is joyful to completely abandon, that is the supreme teaching. It is exemplified by "Even if limbs are cut off with attachment, non-anger is complete patience." Especially in the self-path of mantra, for example, without relying on the one who possesses the essence of mantras, it will not become the cause of wisdom and accomplishment. Others such as hatred also abide as conditions for the Dharma that accomplish qualities, and for those who lack skillful means, they also abide as conditions for the Dharma of faults. Here, because both skillful means and wisdom are grasped, just as a peacock takes food as its activity, the nature of afflictions will be liberated into wisdom. The tantra says: A disease completely seized by mantra cannot harm all. Likewise, seized by skillful means, the three poisons and suffering will not harm. Therefore, ignorance is the samaya of Vairochana, because in the realm of Dharma, wisdom itself is not established, so it is one taste with non-knowing. Hatred is the samaya of Akshobhya, it is the nature of subduing the violent. Pride is the samaya of Ratnasambhava, it is the nature of establishing steadfastness in the equality of Dharmata. Desire is the samaya of Amitabha, it is the nature of freely controlling all dharmas. Jealousy is the samaya of Amoghasiddhi, it is the nature of taming those who awaken to the equality of Dharma and strongly cling to views that cling to things. The second aspect is the five great amritas, because it is certain to be taken, it is taken as enjoying Dharmata. Because it is known to be the nature of the five families, it is taken. Because it is the samaya substance for accomplishing siddhis, it is taken. Because dakinis gather and siddhis are near, it is taken. Because it is the conduct of all Buddhas, it is taken. As it is said in the root tantra: White essence, red essence, unclean flesh. The pure vessel essence is not abandoned. The samaya of the ten branches is supreme, originally pure, equal, realized, and practiced. And also, in the eighth chapter of the Tantra of the arising of Amrita: Eat the pure food of nagas and brahmins.
