Those who enter the mantra of manifestation and hold cause and effect as pure liberation are completely controlled by discriminating thoughts and only bind their own minds with attachment, so very few enter the true path. Why is that? For example, some think that the strong anger that arises in the mind, without diminishing its own nature, is the path. If that were the case, then even the son who killed his father, possessing mindfulness and autonomy, would not be tainted by karma, so the so-called liberation would only be a name. Some measure it with logic and think that this is the path. If that were the case, then there would be no difference from the Vehicle of Reasoning, and it would be similar to the idea of benefiting sentient beings with virtuous roots and corresponding afflictions, possessing the means to abandon the path of meditation. Some cultivate love as an antidote to anger, thus becoming both abandonment and antidote. If that were the case, then the antidote would be the path, not the affliction becoming the path. Some think that the consciousness after the cessation of anger, like a state of exhaustion, is the path. If that were the case, then afflictions and wisdom would be mutually independent. Therefore, their nature is that during the time of affliction, they possess any part of abandonment or antidote, so they are not established by their own essence as a continuation of the path, like a severed umbilical cord. After the severance, they are connected by the sharp connection of investigation, so they are only the result of cessation and the true antidote path. So, what should it be like? The nature of knowable things, afflictions do not establish with their own nature, so when desire and so on arise, they arise from the very nature of emptiness, so there is no self-nature. For this, the connection measured by logic is also not established. The elaboration of cultivating the antidote to be abandoned is naturally pacified. If one knows that the nature of each unceasing essence is the very nature of Dharma, then the nature of closeness to afflictions is itself pure, so it cannot perform the act of accumulating karma. And, the habitual tendencies based on it will not accumulate, so there is nothing to abandon. As it says in the Vajra Sutra: "Afflictions are like illusions, empty in nature; knowing their impermanent nature, one is liberated." And, as it says in the Sutra of the Wheel of Non-Returning: "Ignorance is like the sky; all phenomena are without characteristics; there is no desire and no anger; pride and jealousy, all are like illusions."
