Earth. At that time, immediately after waking up, I prayed intensely to the Lama. I interrupted sleep for a short while. In the center of the body, like a pillar of Dharma-nature erected, without obstruction inside and out, in the empty and transparent heart center, the red A syllable (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) was like a burning butter lamp, and the inside of the body was like moonlight entering a window. I focused my awareness on this clarity and maintained the natural posture. Moreover, when just waking up and when about to fall asleep, one should maintain a state of alertness. In the Tantra of Vast Expanse of Sky: If sleep is clarified as meditation, At the times of turning over and waking up, Remembering Tila Dharmakaya, It is like being placed in a precious gau box. Thus, through diligent practice, it is not a state of unconsciousness in deep sleep, nor is it a state of dreaming. In that interval, if a clear awareness like a cloudless sky occasionally arises, then it is the beginning of realizing luminosity. In general, luminosity is distinguished from the perspective of the three aspects of ground, path, and fruition. First, in the desire realm, there is the coarse consciousness of the seven aggregates; in the form realm, there is the subtle alaya consciousness; and in the formless realm, there is the extremely subtle alaya consciousness alone. Because these are dominant, luminosity is obscured, and one does not recognize oneself, thus creating samsara. In this way, the luminosity of the nature of reality, the luminosity of sleep, and the luminosity of death are all present whether one meditates on them or not, so they are called ground luminosity. Second, through the power of meditating on the path, the grasping arising from the aggregates of consciousness is purified, thereby realizing that all phenomena are unborn. This is the general meaning luminosity. In the three states of deep sleep and death, the winds and mind merge and dissolve into the central channel, and the four emptinesses that arise from this are recognized in experience. The luminosity awakened by the wisdom of clear seeing, exemplified by a clear cloudless sky, even the subtle dualistic appearances that are like illusions are purified, thereby directly realizing the wisdom of utter non-conceptuality. These are all path-time luminosities, the meditation of which is unerring. From that, the non-learning union manifests, and this is merely represented as fruition luminosity. In reality, luminosity is the bliss of the noble ones.

The path of fresh vision is Napa, and union is solely the Buddha's realm. Therefore, in these stages of the path, the superior one, after gaining the light's increase, all coarse and subtle appearances cease, like a clear sky, recognizing that itself as the actual basis of the path. If that itself becomes very stable through habituation, then the light itself arises as if newly attained, and the four emptinesses appear in direct and reverse order. Therefore, one should make the transference of recognizing the reverse order from the direct order. The intermediate one does not necessarily experience the four emptinesses in sequence, but in the state of waking from deep sleep and not dreaming, due to various causes of aspiration and wind force, the appearance of coarse and subtle objects does not cease, and the mind, clear, empty, and free from thought, like a state of not having fallen asleep, is recognized as the faint light. And that sometimes arises mixed with dreams. The inferior one, in the state of deep sleep, in various circumstances, without dreaming, but recognizing a clear and bright awareness like a butter lamp lit inside a vase, is the light of experience. Thus, whichever of the three ways of recognition arises, temporarily holding onto the way that easily generates experience, ultimately proceeding to the nature of the three path lights as mentioned above, then the nature of ignorant sleep becomes light, and the first fruit, the non-learning union, is accomplished. As it is said in the Glorious Guhyasamaja Tantra: Ignorance is the Dharmadhatu wisdom, all the extremely vast names, because ignorance is a friend. Later, in this era, being able to abide single-pointedly is very rare, therefore sorrow increases. Most of those who claim to have realized the clear light are merely mixing the continuity of single-pointed awareness with sleep, and some appear as faint or experiential light. The nature of those is merely the bliss-clarity-non-thought meditation falling asleep, therefore it is not transcending the three realms. Therefore, the necessity of the clear light is that at the time of death, one ascertains the nature of the four emptinesses, thereby gaining freedom in the objectless clear light, in order to transform death into the path of the Dharmakaya. Therefore, in the waking state, generate the four emptinesses of the wind dissolving into the central channel, abide in the clear light, and in the sleeping state, self-
