Regarding the general principles for determining the common and specific categories of samaya, there are two types of transgressions: root downfalls and secondary downfalls. First, concerning the vows cherished in common for Anuttarayoga, the detailed classification of the fourteen root downfalls should be examined as follows: First, there is no need to elaborate on the guru who has bestowed empowerment. Even explaining a single verse of the tantra, if one neglects the service and respect related to the Dharma in the three instructions of the profound path, then there will be no accomplishment of mantra. Thus, these fourteen root downfalls are specifically enumerated in the Guhyagarbha Tantra, the Kalachakra, the Red Yamari, and the Black Enemy Tantras, etc. Since it gathers the meaning of all the tantras, it is a great vow cherished in common for Anuttarayoga. As it is said in the Fifty Verses on the Guru: "The fourteen root downfalls should be read and held in mind." Why are they called root downfalls? Just as when the root of a tree is pulled out, the trunk, branches, and even the fruit disappear, so too, if the root that generates all qualities is pulled out, it obstructs the generation of higher qualities and causes one to fall to a lower state. Therefore, it is called a downfall. The object of generating the first root downfall is the one who possesses all three: empowerment, explanation of the tantra, and instruction of the oral teachings, who is called the one with three kindnesses. As the tantra says: "Explaining the tantra, bestowing empowerment, and personally instructing." And as the Jewel Lamp says: "The guru who bestows empowerment, explains the tantra, and from whom one receives the oral instructions of the activity, that is also the guru. These three should be without jealousy and wish to benefit, that is the guru." Therefore, these three kindnesses are also given with the mind of benefiting the disciple. For the one who possesses bodhicitta, because one's own wishes have been fulfilled, the mind becomes complacent, and a careless thought arises, and one no longer approaches with closeness and respect, this is abandoning the burden of holding the guru, which is contempt. As the Ornament of the Kosa says: "If one reviles the guru from the heart, even if one practices, it will not be accomplished." Therefore, if one despises such an object of generating the root downfall, what need is there to say more? In short, if one incorrectly explains the meaning of the verses in the tantra, or if one misunderstands the essential points of the oral instructions from the perspective of wisdom arising from meditation,

As previously stated, with a mind of benefiting, one should bear the burden of gratitude towards any teacher, and even the fault of contempt is difficult to tolerate. Just by listening to a single verse, if someone does not regard that person as their guru, they will be reborn as a dog, experiencing a hundred lifetimes as a dog, and will be reborn with facial birthmarks. Like this, among all fourteen root downfalls, the first one is the most severe in terms of negative consequences. If it has not reached the level of contemptuous insults, it is a branch downfall. If it reaches the level of a root downfall and is complete with all the severe factors of transgression, then the fault is even greater than the five inexpiable sins. Like this, even having committed the five inexpiable sins and abandoning the sacred Dharma, if one initially enters the gate of Vajrayana and practices according to the guru's instructions without being defiled by faults and downfalls, one can attain accomplishment. The Tantra of Great Bliss states: "Even a butcher, a prostitute, or someone who has committed the five inexpiable sins, will not be obscured by their own self-aware consciousness." If one inwardly reviles the teacher and does not restore oneself through confession and vows, then one will go to the Vajra Hell. The Net of Illusion Tantra states: "The fault of reviling the guru and disturbing their mind, is like trying to empty the outer great ocean by scattering water with a strand of hair; one will experience suffering to that extent, and that is known as the Vajra Hell." Therefore, one should be careful. If one strives to find a way to restore oneself, one might be able to purify a portion of the ripening result, but attaining accomplishment will be greatly delayed, as will be explained in the subsequent teachings. Second, the three vows and the objects of training, transgressing the limits of what the Sugata has permitted and prohibited. Similarly, a guru who possesses the qualities, disregarding the place and time, and disdaining the teachings. Among these, the place is abandoning the suffering of samsara, the seed of self-grasping, and the cause of all that should be abandoned, thereby attaining goodness, non-reversion, and complete departure, hence called Sugata. The Compendium of Valid Cognition states: "Abandoning the cause, possessing three qualities, is the Sugata." Our supreme teacher, dividing the teachings into three vehicles, if one knowingly, with the intention of disdain, transgresses the objects of training prescribed by the three vows, this is a root downfall of transgressing the Sugata's teachings. And related to this,
