If the term Abhiṣeka is added, it accomplishes the two ways of suddenly clearing away defilements and pouring blessings. Thus it is said. Regarding the explanation of the word empowerment (dbang): Just as one can become a vessel and practice according to the system, one can practice the path, and just as the special power of the wisdom of the fruit is poured into the continuum, it is established as empowerment. Because it purifies defilements, it is established as the meaning of clearing away, as the former says: Because it can become a vessel, it is the vase empowerment, pouring and clearing makes it pure, it is empowerment. And in the Two Examinations (brtag gnyis), it also says: What is called clearing and pouring, therefore it is called empowerment. Thus it is. The order of such four empowerments, from now on, the way they abide in the nature of cause, path, and fruit: The supreme empowerment abides in oneself, the basis and resources of the six elements are the empowerment of the cause; the master himself bestows it with rituals, and one's own familiarity with the object is the empowerment of the path; like the great light empowerment at the time of cause, one's own mind maturing into the four bodies is the empowerment of the fruit; when the four empowerments are complete, one obtains the vows of the vidyadhara. Here, the mind is the basis of wisdom, possessing the four aggregates of name, the basis of the aggregates is the five elements, the basis of the five elements is the channels, the basis of the channels is the life-force wind, the basis of the wind is the bodhicitta, therefore these are also like the taste, power, smell, and residue of medicine, relying on each other in one gathering, from which one's own mind-stream has never been stained by defilements, possessing the essence of the Tathagata, the way the nature of empowerment has been abiding from the beginning. In the explanatory tantra of Vajrakilaya, it says: If one realizes the nature of mind, it is empowerment, all self-aware Phurba is supreme. Thus it is. In the state of samsara, the five elements and the addition of wisdom on top of them, the way they abide in the empowerment of the cause with the special basis of the six elements, the conditions, and the resources being complete is: In the Vajra Burning Tantra, it says: The mind is the four aggregates of name, the basis of the aggregates is the five elements, the basis of the five elements is the channels, the channels rely on the life-force wind, the life-force wind relies on the bodhicitta. As it is said, from the five aggregates at the time of cause to the five Buddha families, the five elements to the five mothers, the twelve sources to the heroes and heroines, etc., becoming the deity of the mandala complete with the three places.

The completion in the cycle of existence is the nature of the vase empowerment, as stated in the Sutra of Gatherings: "Initially, in the nature of the deity, Vajrasattva abides." and so on. Therefore, before practicing the path, the seed of the vase empowerment, which is the preliminary, the main channels of this body naturally reside as the Nirmanakaya (emanation body). To purify its temporary defilements, the vase empowerment is given, which is the empowerment of the path. Similarly, the seeds of the secret empowerment reside as the Sambhogakaya (enjoyment body) in the nature of letters. To purify its temporary defilements, the secret empowerment is given. The seeds of the wisdom empowerment, the conventional Bodhicitta (enlightenment mind) and the dependent origination, are related, and the mind itself resides in the nature of the Dharmakaya (truth body) of great bliss. To purify its temporary defilements, the wisdom empowerment is given. Wisdom is the co-emergent view, and Jnana (wisdom) is the Vipassana (insight) that knows its nature. The seed of the fourth empowerment, although not visible now, resides as the co-emergent Jnana with the experience of bliss and emptiness. The word empowerment purifies its temporary defilements, thereby placing the power of the wisdom of clear wind-mind, the awareness of emptiness free from extremes, and the characteristics of the three liberations into the continuum, which are the four path empowerments. Alternatively, initially relying on the ritual, depending on the one who is empowered and the one who empowers, from the aspect of understanding the symbols of empowerment, it is also established as the cause empowerment. Therefore, when the Guru (teacher) bestows empowerment on the disciple in this way, it can be included in both the base empowerment and the path empowerment. Other than that, self-entry, the four empowerments of profound yoga, and becoming accustomed to the lineage of blessing transference, and diligently practicing with faith, are all path empowerments. At the time of the cause, the suchness of empowerment that one possesses, like the mandala of the sun, is obscured by the temporary defilements of samsara (cyclic existence), the Alaya (store consciousness) and the eight consciousnesses, like clouds and mists, and cannot be seen. At the time of the path, with skill in the means of manifesting the power of the four types of Abhisamaya (realization), the temporary defilements like clouds and mists are instantly removed, thereby generating vast temporary qualities. And from the Paramita (perfection) vehicle, the Tathagatagarbha (Buddha-nature) that goes to the blissful passing, existing in the continuum as just a seed, increases from the two causal conditions for three countless great kalpas (aeons).
