Just as one desires butter, the aspects of ordinary grasping and being grasped are abandoned through the path of practicing yoga as deities and suchness. Immediately after that, the wisdom being is entered into the samaya being of mere self-experience, and the inner samadhi of meditation and recitation is mainly performed, and finally the wisdom being is also invited to depart. What need is there to conform to the tenets of philosophical schools in this way? In all four classes of tantras, deity yoga and the method of practicing the two truths, either sequentially or simultaneously, relying on emptiness, are distinguished as outer and inner based on the completeness or incompleteness of the key points of both the generation and completion stages, from the perspective of major, minor, and oral instructions. Because there are subtle similarities and vast differences in the attainment of meaning, it is for the sake of thoroughly understanding that the stages of the path show a progression from higher to higher, becoming increasingly profound. If this is not distinguished, then now it is merely the image of approaching for the sake of minor common siddhis, and for the purpose of engaging in empowerments, consecrations, and so forth,

Applying ashes and so on is the Mother Tantra. It is not limited to that; if the central deity's main figure changes, but the main female figure does not change, it is the Yoga Father Tantra. For example, the single Mother Space Treasury (Dbyings phug ma) herself becomes the main figure and standard in whichever of the five families' mandalas is practiced, such as Vairochana. In the mandala of the body, it is Vairochana; in the speech mandala, it is Amitabha; in the mind mandala, it is Akshobhya Vajra; in the quality mandala, it is Ratnasambhava; and in the activity mandala, it is Amoghasiddhi. It is like the single Mother Space Treasury pervading them all. Similarly, if the central female figure changes, but the main figure does not change, it is the Mother Tantra. In the Stainless Light (Dri med 'od), it says: "In the conventional sense, wherever the yoginis truly roam and the main figure does not move, that is the Yogini Tantra. Wherever skillful means truly roam and wisdom does not move, that is the Skillful Means Tantra." So it is. The method of changing is the same as making each of the five families the standard, the meaning is the same. Why is it necessary to change? If the family of the deity upon whom the flower falls is made the main figure, it is called the Near Mandala, meaning it is close to accomplishment. By fully approaching the family and mandala of whichever of the four activities is practiced, the siddhi is quickly accomplished. Moreover, each of the five—body, speech, mind, quality, and activity—is divided into five, such as the body of the body, making twenty-five. Similarly, the families of the five wisdoms are also divided into that many, making twenty-five. When the two are separated and compared with each other, the mandalas of body and wisdom have a hundred families, a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand, changing from a billion to an inconceivable spontaneously accomplished mandala. As it says in the Illusion (Sgyu 'phrul): "The mandala is inconceivable, spontaneously accomplished." Thus, in the Father Tantra, there is an elaboration of the generation stage of skillful means, and in the completion stage, the emphasis is on extracting the wind. In the Mother Tantra, there is only the generation stage, and the completion stage emphasizes only the bindu. Showing the nature of both to be equal is called the Non-Dual Tantra, but even though it is so named, the ultimate view and perspective are only dualistic. Therefore, in the definitive sense, all tantras are non-dual tantras of skillful means and wisdom. In the Later Collected Tantra, in the section explaining the meaning of the word yoga, it says: "Skillful means and wisdom equally merged, is called yoga."
