Regarding the general principles for determining the general and specific categories of root downfalls and coarse downfalls, the first point is: Initially, regarding the vows cherished in general for Anuttarayoga, one should examine the detailed classification of the fourteen root downfalls as follows: First, what need is there to mention the guru who has bestowed empowerment? Explaining even a single verse of the tantric continuum, regarding the profound instructions on the path, in the three aspects of hearing, thinking, and meditating, one despises the service and respect related to the Dharma as a burden. In that case, there will be no accomplishment of mantra. Thus, these fourteen root downfalls are explicitly stated in the Vajra Heart Ornament Tantra, the Kalachakra, the Red Yamari, and the Black Enemy tantras, among others. Because it is a compilation of the meanings of all the tantras, it is a great vow cherished in general for Anuttarayoga. Therefore, the Fifty Verses on the Guru also states: "The fourteen root downfalls should be recited and upheld." Why are they called root downfalls? Just as when the root of a tree, etc., is removed, the trunk, branches, and even fruit disappear, so too, if the root of generating all qualities is removed, it obstructs the generation of higher qualities and causes one to fall to lower states. Therefore, it is called a downfall. Among these, the object for generating the first root downfall is: one who has all three of empowerment, tantra explanation, and instruction, is called possessing three kindnesses. The tantra states: "Explaining the tantra, bestowing empowerment, indicating its very nature." And the Jewel Lamp states: "The guru who bestows empowerment and explains the tantra, and from whom one receives the instructions for practice, that one is also a guru. These three are without jealousy and wish to benefit, that is the guru." Therefore, these three kindnesses are also given with a mind of benefiting the disciple. For one who possesses bodhichitta, because one's own wishes are fulfilled, the mind becomes complacent, and one develops an indifferent attitude, thereby distancing oneself from respect. This is despising the guru by regarding them as a burden. The Ornament of Koshala states: "If one reviles the guru from the heart, even if one practices, it will not be accomplished." Therefore, what need is there to mention despising such an object for generating the root downfall? In short, explaining the meaning of the tantric continuum in verse form without error, or from the perspective of wisdom arising from meditation, even a slight benefit from the unerring key points of the instructions

The fault of despising any teacher with the burden of gratitude in one's heart is also difficult to tolerate, as mentioned earlier. If one only hears one verse, whoever does not regard him as a guru will be born in the place of dogs hundreds of times, and will be born as a leper. Thus, among the fourteen root downfalls, the one that is extremely serious and put forward first, if it has not reached the degree of contemptuous slander, is a downfall with incomplete branches. If it reaches the degree of root downfall and is complete with all great sins, then the sin is greater than the five inexpiable sins. Thus, even if one commits the five inexpiable sins and abandons the Dharma, if one initially enters the gate of the Vajrayana and practices according to the guru's instructions without being stained by sinful downfalls, one can attain accomplishment. In the Tantra of Great Bliss, it is said: Even a butcher, a prostitute, or one who commits the five inexpiable sins will not be obscured by their own clear awareness. It is said. If one inwardly reviles the guru and does not restore oneself through confession and vows, then one will fall into the Vajra Hell, as it is said in the Tantra of the Net of Illusion: The sin of reviling the guru and disturbing his mind is like wiping away a drop of water with a hair from the great outer ocean. One will experience such suffering, which is called the Vajra Hell. Therefore, be careful. If one strives to seek a method of restoration, one may be able to purify the portion of the ripened result, but it will cause a great delay in attaining accomplishment. These reasons will be explained in the subsequent explanations. Second, the three vows and the objects of training, transgressing the limits of the Sugata's permission and prohibition. Similarly, a guru who possesses the characteristics, considering the place and time, disregards the teachings. Among them, the place is the abandonment of the suffering of samsara, the seed of self-grasping, and the cause of all that should be abandoned, it is excellent, irreversible, and completely gone, so it is the Sugata, as it is said in the Pramanavarttika: Abandoning the cause, possessing three qualities is the Sugata. Our supreme teacher, in the content of the teachings that teach in the three vehicles, for the objects of training prescribed by the three vows, knowingly transgressing with the intention of disrespecting them, this is the root downfall of transgressing the Sugata's teachings. In accordance with this
