because of that. The vows are the certainty of what should be done and what should not be done. That is to say, all the parts that cannot be transgressed, such as making vows to enter, are all samayas, and after examining what is allowed and prohibited, everything that must be done in terms of entering and returning is established as vows. Some say that since the root downfalls are not explained in the Kriya and Charya tantras, they are samayas; the Anuttara tantra is related to the root downfalls, so it is vows, and for this reason, they think that there are also those who have samayas in the continuum where the mantra vows have been broken, but this is only an appearance. Like this, the nature of the vows of the Kriya and Charya tantras is also the entering and returning of the Bodhisattva, and it is also explained in the root downfalls, as it says in the Abhisamayalankara: "From today onwards, you, should not abandon the supreme Dharma and the Bodhicitta, even for the sake of your life. You should not be stingy, nor should you harm sentient beings. These samayas have been taught to you by the Buddhas with good conduct." Like that. If you ask how this is established as a root downfall, it says in the same text: "The four root downfalls should not be violated even for the sake of life." Thus, these four are explained as root downfalls. Similarly, in the Manjushri Root Tantra, it says: "These five are shown to be root downfalls." Thus, five root downfalls are explained. Furthermore, since the pacification by mantra is explained in both the Abhisamayalankara and the Accomplishment of Qualities, therefore, as long as there is empowerment, the mantra vows that arise from relying on it are the same in terms of entering and returning, so the vows and samayas are only distinguished by their opposite aspects, and their nature is not different. In the vows of the five families, it says: "In the samaya of the Buddha family, after I have taken the vow of generating the mind, I will not abandon the Three Jewels. This is the vow of the Buddha family." Like this, it is also explained for all five families. Now, to begin with distinguishing their individual natures, in general, those who have not obtained the mantra vows, and those whose consciousness is not in its natural state, such as those who are insane, do not have downfalls or accomplishments. Those who have mantra vows and have not broken or abandoned them, and whose consciousness is in a clear state, are vessels for both downfalls and accomplishments. Like this, those individuals who are the basis and are not bound by vows, from the point of view of natural transgressions, and from the point of view of prescribed violations, do not have either accomplishments or downfalls, just as a beggar lives by begging.

Just as fathers have neither dominion nor taxes. Therefore, if guarded, it will increase and attain accomplishment, but if violated, it will fall. As a vessel, the awareness of having received the mantra vow and not violating it abides in its own nature. For the insane and those with confused consciousness, there is neither increase nor decrease. When the teacher was alive, the monk Byema Kye (Tibetan: བྱེ་མ་སྐྱེས།) went mad, became naked, etc. For situations that do not belong to the basis of downfall, because they cannot be accomplished, they were freely permitted. It is the same here. Considering non-virtue as the ultimate entity is not the tenet of our teacher. Among them, in order to identify the boundaries of the transgressions to be discussed, the distinction between complete entanglement and gross offense is explained: For root transgressions other than the mind of enlightenment, it is called complete entanglement, and one is still doing that action, not having stopped wanting to do it, having no regret for it, having no sense of shame for oneself, and having no sense of embarrassment for others. If these three qualities are complete, and the motivation reaches the end of the action, and if it is continuous, then it is a defeat with complete entanglement. Or, if the interval of time is not continuous, or if one of the three qualities is not complete, and the branch of the action is incomplete, it becomes a gross offense. Generally, the so-called complete entanglement is a branch of the root transgression of a Bodhisattva, as it has been established in the Bodhisattva's Pitaka. Here, as a way of combining it as a branch of the transgressions of mantra, the fifth root transgression, abandoning the mind of enlightenment, does not depend on complete entanglement, and whichever of the other thirteen it may be, if one commits that fault and has not stopped wanting to commit it, For that action, there is no regret of considering it a fault, there is no sense of shame for oneself, and there is no sense of embarrassment for others, these three qualities, or on top of that, adding being happy and satisfied with those faults, becoming four qualities, also exists, it is only a subtle difference. In any case, from the second moment of generating such an evil motivation, until the actual completion of the action, if everything is complete, it is called great entanglement or defeat, because it severs the vows, it causes the opposing side to be defeated. That is, it means that the harmonious side here is defeated by the hostile side. As it is said in the Peak Tantra: From that
