Please, Bhagavan, grant the key to taming the mind! The Buddha said: The mind is the root of the Dharma. Thus, until the foundation of mastering dreams and cutting off distractions has been established, one should not rush into practices such as transformation. Sometimes, some people may occasionally realize they are dreaming in a dream, but this awareness is not related to the key instructions, nor is it obtained through effort. This cannot be verified, and there is no basis for it. Regarding the ways of mastering dreams, there are Two types: subtle mastery and coarse mastery. Subtle mastery refers to naturally realizing that one is dreaming when the dream appearance arises. Coarse mastery refers to realizing that one is dreaming due to fear when appearances such as fire, water, wild animals, wild people, ghosts, enemies, etc., arise in the dream. At this time, one should muster courage and overcome fear. For example, if one dreams of being burned by fire, carried away by water, devoured by wild animals, etc., one should bravely face it. Whether it is subtle mastery or coarse mastery, it is best to regard everything that appears in the dream as emptiness, because they have never truly existed and are not truly established, thereby realizing the true nature. Secondly, one can regard the dream realm as the eight similes of illusion. If one can include one's body, speech, and mind in the practice, just like practicing the illusory body, then it is very excellent. At the very least, one should regard the dream as an illusion, so that one can utilize the dream. Next is practicing skills: When one can master the dream, one should transform oneself into various images such as kings, Brahmins, outcasts, etc., as well as lions, elephants, tigers, etc., as well as garudas, vultures, etc., as well as mountains, forests, houses, the four elements, and other various things. And one should practice making these things disappear in an instant. When one is skilled, one can transform the outer world and the inner sentient beings into deities and palaces, and focus on practicing the magical powers of enlarging and shrinking, contracting and expanding freely. Next is transformation: transforming fire into water, water into fire, wind into earth, earth into wind, people into animals, animals into people, making existing things disappear, and making non-existent things appear. Finally, when one is skilled, one can transform the outer world into a palace, and the inner sentient beings into the images of deities and consorts.

One should practice in this way. Next is proliferation: In dreams, for any object that appears, learn to multiply from one to two, from two to four, from four to eight, etc., up to hundreds and thousands. Visualize impure appearances as the deity of the yidam and proliferate them into many. For uncertain miracles, practice blazing fire from above, flooding water from below, pressing the sun and moon under your feet, and pervading the three thousand worlds with one body, etc. Thus, after practicing, since both the waking and dreaming states need to help each other, one should practice in dreams the tummo and illusory body, etc., which one is most familiar with in daytime practice, and focus on the clear light of emptiness, as well as the illusory deity body made of wind and mind. This is because, for ordinary dream yoga practitioners, the necessity of dream yoga is that, in order for the body of aggregates made of wind and mind, with the four names of the intermediate state, to arise as an illusory body in the clear light of death and the intermediate state. Furthermore, during sleep, the consciousness of the five senses gradually dissolves into the mind, and after the four emptinesses arising from this are recognized, in the first instant of the appearance of dreams in the clear light, an illusory deity body made of wind and mind will arise. Abide in this, and visualize the appearances of outer and inner worlds as palaces and deities, etc. Alternatively, generate emptiness through sleep, and merge this emptiness into the clear light, abiding as much as possible. If dreams appear, then one should learn the stages of arising as an illusory body. If one cannot do these, then as soon as a dream appears, immediately visualize oneself as an illusory deity body, and abide in that state, while also performing meditations such as focusing and following recollection. After gaining stability in this, is the method of purifying the field: In the waking state, repeatedly recall the place and scenery to which one will go. Then, before going to sleep, generate an even stronger desire to go there, and after a dream appears, visualize oneself manifested as the deity body, going like a shooting star to the top of a mountain, a special place of practice, the objects of the Three Jewels, the place where the lama resides, etc., and successively going to the pure lands of the Buddhas, etc., and observing the characteristics of each place. After mastering this, the method of purifying the pure land is: Akaniṣṭha Dense Adornment (Tibetan: འོག་མིན་སྟུག་པོ་བཀོ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ogmin stugpo bko, Sanskrit Romanization: ogmin stugpo bko, Chinese literal meaning: Lower No Dense Adornment).
