Flowing within one hundred and twenty-six thousand six hundred, that is, from the primordial source. What necessarily flows from the root is one hundred thousand and twenty thousand, six thousand and six hundred. What necessarily arises from the root is considered the subtle wind of movement. Thus it is said. To differentiate from the perspective of function, the root winds are the life-sustaining, fire-accompanying, all-pervading, upward-moving, and downward-cleansing, residing in five places. Their functions are, in order, sustaining life, generating the heat of fire, nourishing the body, the movement of breath, and the actions of walking, excreting urine and feces. Among these, the male wind, upward-moving, resides in the upper body; the female wind, downward-cleansing, resides in the lower body; and the neutral wind is the same as both. Internal winds have the colors of the five elements. They are the support for the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. They are also the support for the five poisons and the five wisdoms, spreading like cause and effect. Among these, of the five root winds, the life-sustaining resides in the heart, causing life to exist. The fire-accompanying resides in the stomach, generating heat. The all-pervading resides throughout the body, nourishing the body. The upward-moving resides in the upper body, causing the exhalation and inhalation of breath. The downward-cleansing resides in the lower body, performing the actions of walking and excreting impurities, and thus is known as the five external winds. The internal winds are the nature of the five elements: the earth wind is yellow, the water wind is white, the fire wind is red, the wind wind is green, and the space wind is blue. If considered from the perspective of meditation, their shapes are also, in order, square, crescent, triangular, like a drawn bow, and round. Relying on these, they become the support for the internal aggregates, elements, and sense bases. Moreover, in impure times, they become the basis for the spread of the five poisons. In the stage of the path, relying on the samadhi of exhaustion, miraculous powers are accomplished. In pure times, they become the support for the spread of the five wisdoms. If considered from the perspective of the mode of operation, in summer, fire; in autumn, wind; in winter, water; and in spring, earth winds operate. Therefore, as their antidote, one can meditate in reverse, or simply meditate on the all-auspicious space wind, or meditate on whatever wind is suitable according to the condition of the illness. These can also be condensed into the three winds of male, female, and neutral. The male wind flows from the right nostril, the female wind flows from the left nostril, and the neutral wind flows evenly. These three winds also,

By ascertaining the winds of the five elements and combining them with the changing seasons, men should primarily practice the female wind, women should primarily practice the male wind, and both should primarily practice the neuter wind. This makes it easier to accomplish the five secret wisdom winds. These winds have no grossness, so they have no color or form. Furthermore, from the key points of the three—upward-moving, downward-voiding, and equally-abiding—one should become skilled in the three key points of pressing down the upper wind, gathering the lower wind, and expanding the middle wind. As it says in the Prasangika: “Moving upward and voiding downward, In between, the wise seek the key point.” Furthermore, one should become skilled in the nine key points of shooting like an arrow, bending like a bow, expanding like a vase, tightening like a crocodile, pressing down like a mountain, gathering like a tubular stream, spreading at the channel-places, dissolving in one's own place, and spreading pervadingly in the nature of reality like the sky. There are two natures of wind: karmic wind and wisdom wind. As it says in the Chakra of Channel-Places: “There are two kinds of wind: Wisdom and karmic wind.” As the karmic wind causes samsara, due to changes and disturbances in the position of the channels, it becomes karmic wind, becoming the mount of the mind. From this arise various kinds of conceptual thoughts, non-virtuous transformations, sinking, excitement, dullness, and so on, giving rise to bad wind states. Displacement of the dwelling place causes various illusions to arise. The changing of the four seasonal winds also causes the end of life. The wind like winter ice becomes fire wind, the wind like spring seeds becomes water wind, the wind like summer sparks becomes earth wind, and the wind like autumn flowers becomes wind wind, thus causing the end of life. Furthermore, insufficient flow also causes the end of life. For an adult, if it is insufficient by three hundred times, it is one year less; if it is insufficient by fifty times, it is two years less; if it is insufficient by thirty-two times, it is three years less; if it is insufficient by twenty-one times, it is four years less; if it is insufficient by eight times, it is seven months less; if it is insufficient by six times, it is five months less; if it is insufficient by four times, it is one month less; if it is insufficient by ten times, it is twenty-nine days less; if it is insufficient by twenty times, it is eighteen days less; if it is insufficient by thirty times, it is ten days less; if it is insufficient by forty times, it is seven days less; if it is insufficient by sixty times, it is fifteen days less. Wind changes.
