As said in the oral instructions of Ruka: Manifesting appearances clearly as deities, Also perfects the accumulation of merit with this. With pure non-attachment to reality towards that, One perfects the accumulation of wisdom. Thus, for those with sharp faculties, regarding how to proceed through the five paths from relying on the near cause of a stable generation stage, to relying on the vastness of developing the aggregates and elements as deities, up to the ultimate realization of the completion stage, the Treatise on Holders of Knowledge says: Meditate on the aggregates and elements as deities, Mantra recitation and gathering are the path of accumulation, Familiarizing oneself with that is the path of joining, Samantabhadra Heruka, Maturing in the mind is the path of seeing, Extremely stable is the path of meditation, The inseparability of space and wisdom is the ultimate path. Thus, also from the connection of the generation stage's recitation, mantra, and samadhi, one obtains accomplishments, and its root also arises from the minds of sentient beings, conceptual thoughts, and controllable and transformable sense consciousnesses. Therefore, initially, the way to learn gradually from all phenomena abiding in the gate of letters. The Guhyagarbha Tantra says: "Mind itself is the nature of letters, letters are like wish-fulfilling jewel clouds." The Manjushri Illusion Tantra says: "A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: A) is the best of all letters, a sacred letter of great meaning, arising from emptiness, unborn." The Mother of the Buddhas says: "The letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: A) is the gate of all phenomena because it is unborn." Thus, the spontaneously present letters of self-nature, the mind of clear light, and the letters abiding in the body's channels, the seed syllables (Tibetan: ས་བོན, Devanagari: बीज, Romanized Sanskrit: bīja, Literal meaning: seed) of the deities that are clear vowels, and the letters of sound, meaning, and symbols, that is, the distinctions of the general sound and the general meaning, and writing them down and abiding in images, such as the Lantsa and Nagara scripts of the East and West of India, and the life-force of the deities represented by the Tibetan script, and mantra garlands, etc., first stabilizing the focus on them, then becoming accustomed to them and the mudras, after that is stable, the solitary deity, then the ornaments and mudras, then the consort, then the retinue of deities with the palace, then engaging in the emanation and absorption of light rays, this is the samadhi of the first mandala, after perfecting the three paths of accumulation, one attains clairvoyance and subtle direct perception, obtains the samadhi of the Buddha's dharma stream, sees the face of the Buddha's nirmanakaya, then the gate of the four immeasurables, above and in the center.

Beginning with the arrangement of mandalas in five supremely high abodes, contemplate a complete mandala with the King of Forms and others in the pure chamber of the central palace. Moreover, by alternating contemplation of peaceful and wrathful deities, gain stability and thereby attain the heat stage of the path of joining. Similarly, by contemplating Akshobhya in the stable room of the eastern gate, attain the peak stage; by contemplating Amitabha in the room of the western gate, attain the forbearance stage. Likewise, Ratnasambhava in the south attains the supreme dharma stage, and Amoghasiddhi in the north attains the path of seeing, thereby gaining twelve hundred thousand qualities and beholding the faces of a hundred Buddhas in an instant, and so forth. By completing the contemplation of twelve thousand such mandalas, the second bhumi is attained. By twelve kotis, the third. By a hundred koti-khrakhriks, the fourth. By a thousand koti-khrakhriks, the fifth. By a hundred thousand koti-khrakhriks, the sixth. By contemplating khrakhrik-phrakhriks beyond expression, the seventh. By vast expansion, the eighth. By immeasurability, the ninth. By completing the contemplation of countless, inconceivable, spontaneously accomplished mandalas, the tenth bhumi is attained. Finally, Vajradhara Samantabhadra Heruka's masters, through the empowerment of great light, in the instant of traversing the eleventh bhumi, also fully master the special bhumis of the mantra path, and are therefore called Great Vajradhara. Furthermore, if proceeding by combining the five paths with the four vidyadharas, the view of the Omniscient Great One is that those who have gained stability in the generation stage, whose mind-nature has matured into a deity, but who have not been able to purify the defilements of the five elements through the conduct of proximate causes, abide on the paths of accumulation and joining, and are called the vidyadhara of complete maturation. If the body of complete maturation is destroyed without attaining the supreme dharma stage of the path of joining, then without needing to take rebirth in a future existence, the great seal is attained in the bardo. Because the mind has matured into the illusory empty form of the deity's body, as soon as the body of complete maturation is abandoned, the bodhisattva's path of seeing is immediately attained. If the supreme dharma stage is attained with that basis, then it is called the accomplishment of the holy vidyadhara who controls life, and that very body is transformed into a pure, vajra-like body, and the mind also attains the path of seeing. Like that, the number of years connecting sixteen lifetimes, or the duration of that time.
